Bike makes and car makes ?

car makes and bike makes

BMW Q6.S: We can't imagine a BMW two-wheeler without their trademark suspension system. Apparently, neither can BMW; their 27-speed Q6.S dons their motorcycle-derived Telelever body geometry. Traditional bikes—both motorcycle and mountain—use a telescopic fork system that tends to nosedive during abrupt braking. In the Telelever design, however, suspension and braking forces are separated, allowing you to brake hard without losing use of the front suspension. Liberally garnished with Shimano components, it's rugged enough for the mountain or a pot-holed commute. And as an added bonus, the 29-pound looker folds for easy storage. Price: $3,995.

Jeep Rubicon: Traction control on the Rubicon is similar to their cars: Push a button, and on-the-fly all-wheel drive sends power to the front wheel via an in-frame transfer mechanism. Price: $2,999.

Hummer Tactical Mountain Bike: Featuring a tool-less
folding system designed for military cycles, Hummer's TMB also features 36 stainless steel spokes and double-wall rims. Price: $795.

Honda RN01: Honda's going downhill. The latest addition to their mechanical fleet, the internally geared RN01 mountain bike, is the brainchild of Honda Japan's motorcycle and research development division. Charged with creating a machine that would rule the 2003 Japan Series and World Cup competitions, Honda engineers worked with Kayaba Industry Co. Ltd. (which has created dampening systems for skyscrapers, F1 powerboats and snowmobiles) to design an in-frame suspension system that translates unsprung weight into power. (Hence the name, which stands for Racing and Natural force). No word on when or if it'll be available to consumers. Price: Unknown.

no offence was intended i love to see old Alfa's and some of the new ones are lush and i love Alpinestars to bits too hence i own two. but according to the 2011 reliability study they came 34th out of 35 only beaten by Land Rover to the worst reliable car title

they dont do much better in 2010 or 2009 or so on

Ooh you are spoiling for a fight!!!

Those ugly unreliable cars are not Alfas, they are Fiats dressed up in a tracksuit. They stopped making real Alfas in the late 1960s.

I like the comparison with Klein. Once great things of beauty, taken over by a large company that turns out shit in the interest in profit. The comparison is uncanny.

Si (lifelong Alfisti and 65 Giulia Sprint GTA owner).

I have not had the pleasure of pre-70's Alfa Romeos as this was 5 years before i was born, i can however see the point you have made about Klein as making more sense as a comparison now it has been explained :)

In France :
Lapierre, sunn… -> Renault : boring, mass produced…

Oi! Boring?! I'm not having that! And mass-produced? Maybe in France sonny jim but there ain't a whole heap of them over here!

I'd say Sunn are more like Citroen - very French and with a bit of quirkyness.

I hadn't thought about it that much

I was thinking: looks good but overpriced and breaks easily!

hmmm interesting thread

Alpinestars i would have to liken to Alfa romeo look great and much loved but you just know its going to break.
.

How dare you!

Alfa's are fantastic. So pretty and if looked after are very reliable. How could you compare one to a GT?

Mountain Goat = Shelby Cobra. Beautiful to look at and brutally fast in the right hands. Good ole made in the US brilliance.

Orange= Lotus. Small and British if a little fragile.

Pace= Lola. Made in small numbers, fast, fragile, brilliant in design but never quite made the big time.

Fat Chance= Ferrari. As good as it gets. Sought after by collectors all over the world.

On One= Ssang Yong Musso. Cheap, nasty and ugly but somehow sells to an unsuspecting public. A vehicle for those more interested in the destination than the journey.

Was thinking Lotus = Orange myself APART from the fragility bit. Lotus might be, but can't say I've ever experienced any fragility whatsoever with an Orange, and I've owned a few!

It's funny the thing about Oranges isn't it. I wonder if it was hit and miss production quality? You never hear of old Oranges breaking these days but I remember lots of friends breaking them BITD. I guess the ones that are around today are the ones that didn't break and therefore were better made. I have a pic somewhere of my mates Prestige that had the headtube break clean from the frame up on the moors.

Actually at least 3 companies that I can think of have directly aligned themselves with car companies:

Most famously, TREK and Volkswagen, a special edition Jetta was available with a variety of bikes over the years, the nicest being a rebadged 6000 series bike also called a Jetta.

Volvo and Cannondale; the team Tinker left Klein for, also home to the incredible Missy G. Team bikes were great lookers, not sure if there was a car and bike package.

GT and Honda, not sure if it was available in Europe, but there was a GT branded CRV available in North America, not hugely common, and I'm yet to see a GT with Honda decals.

GT and Chevrolet. Not sure if this went further than GT branding on jerseys, for those about to mock you should bear in mind that in North America Chevrolet if more associated with v8 powered trucks and muscle cars than the silly sub-compact deathtraps sold in the UK.
