Bike makes and car makes ?

On just looking at the pretty Raleighs on this forum and remembering my past thought that the Raleigh was the Ford of the cycling world, I got to wondering what other car manufacturers names could be likened to mountain bike manufacturers

If your bicycle manufacturer was to be compared to a known Car manufacturer, what would it be ?

Oh, er Saracen I used to compare to some austere now defunct or absorbed British car maker, something based on tradition and dependability, Land Rover when it was a British perhaps or BMC

My current GT, I am still wondering about, perhaps other GT owners might have a better idea.

GT is the General Motors of the bike world - a wide range of bikes from the Outpost (Pontiac Firefly) to the Xizang (Chevy Corvettte) by way of the Karakoram (GMC Jimmy) and the Lobo (Chevy Avalanche). Both companies were once leaders in their market and both have been to the brink of non-existence.

car makes and bike makes

hmmm interesting thread

Alpinestars i would have to liken to Alfa romeo look great and much loved but you just know its going to break.

Specialized unfortunately would have to likened to a Ford or Vauxhall reliable, fit for purpose but mass produced.

How dare you! :evil:

Alfa's are fantastic. So pretty and if looked after are very reliable. How could you compare one to a GT?

Mountain Goat = Shelby Cobra. Beautiful to look at and brutally fast in the right hands. Good ole made in the US brilliance.

Orange= Lotus. Small and British if a little fragile.

Pace= Lola. Made in small numbers, fast, fragile, brilliant in design but never quite made the big time.

Fat Chance= Ferrari. As good as it gets. Sought after by collectors all over the world.

On One= Ssang Yong Musso. Cheap, nasty and ugly but somehow sells to an unsuspecting public. A vehicle for those more interested in the destination than the journey.

I agree totally with all of the above, variation I would have Pace as TVR though, for same reasons as Lola

GT?? Huh ?? Alpinestars

no offence was intended i love to see old Alfa's and some of the new ones are lush and i love Alpinestars to bits too hence i own two. but according to the 2011 reliability study they came 34th out of 35 only beaten by Land Rover to the worst reliable car title

they dont do much better in 2010 or 2009 or so on

snap

So what bike is a Landrover ? - Oh yeah Landrover, they do bikes too ! :facepalm:

In France :
Lapierre, sunn… -> Renault : boring, mass produced…
Peugeot -> Peugeot ! :LOL:

I don't really understand the link between bike brand and car brand…
How to consider small brands in their begining like Fat city, Merlin, Manitou, yeti…
