Living in a non-driving household, it was my personal independence machine. It was good to ride, even if (with the benefit of hindsight), the ride wasn’t that great.

If you’re ever near Coventry, go to the transport museum, they have a section on cycling and its role in increasing personal freedom, especially for women.

Nope, it’s about the bikes (admittedly not brilliant ones), that probably did more to get people into cycling of one sort or another in the UK in the ‘70s/‘80s.
