Best bike ever!

So for those of you who have owned the "best bike Ever" did you know it at the time?

I've had some good bikes that I didn't appreciate and I've had some terrible bikes that at the time I thought were great. Its only fairly recently though that I've had bikes I really did appreciate or care about. My brand new Orbea (which I wrecked), my Mountain Cycle San Andreas, that was a bad time in my life following a messy break up and I couldn't spare the funds it needed spendning on it so sold it to a member on here.

I bought a Zaskar off here which is probably my favourite bike I've owned. I also bought my Rock Lobser Ti off here and spent a fair bit on it, for my routes it isn't quite as good to ride as the Zaskar but I still like it a lot and its all I use right now for reasons. So Zaskar for me, a truly great bike, doubt it is the "best Bike Ever", I think they are not the best looking thing (not bad) but I think I'd rather own a Xizang (always had a thing for Titanium) or a Merlin but I've never rode those to compare.

I think I've always appreciated what I've had, so yes. I've had sellers remorse with a few though.

I own the best bike ever.

This is subjective though - I love to ride on old tracks through wilderness, or wandering lanes through the countryside.
A combinationof comfort and efficiency, than can take me miles over smooth ground, and I can carry it if its too rough or a footpath*

Given i had it made after 20 years of grown-up cycling, I'm never likely to part with it.

I have an mtb

and a road bike for if the conditions are at either extreme.

*interestingly a bicycle is one of the few things it's illegal to carry on a footpath iirc.

What is it tom?

It's called "the tibride"
I borrowed 90s galaxy geometry, lowered the bb a little, increased the tyre clearance, added disc brake mounts, rack eyes etc, and had it made by xacd, 2006.
Frame cost me around 700$ delivered iirc.

It started life with 105 2x9 and avid bb7s
Amazing to think it's almost 20yo, all parts still available.

I don't mind an inch and an Eighth head tube on a steel rigid fork, I don't mind IS disc tabs and quick release, I dont need larger than 42mm tyres, and all these things are still available😃

It is all subjective and does depend on where you like to ride. I suppose "best bike ever" for an individual may be possible but will maybe never know unless you have rode them all. Dream bikes could be another kettle of fish entirely, just like Supercars maybe the one you would like to own or thrash the most could end up being terrible.

I've already given you likes in your Orange thread, I can't do it again :p

Bikes on footpaths 🤬 its a problem round here and its the thing that really triggers me 🤣 I only ride on the bridleways, there really isn't room for a bike on the footpaths here and yet people still insist on riding on them or carrying bikes up and down the step sections.

Ebikes on footpaths.
I'm not usually one to support capital punishment...

I get to ride so many different bikes, my demands stopped evolving a long time ago.
Age and ill health may cause them to change in the future, but we'll see.

Would that be folks who ride inconsiderately, or all cyclists? I don't mind folks who do as we do, slow to walking pace around blind bits/pedestrians and use the verges or dismount if necessary. We rarely get any hassle.
