Best 90's rim and did the UK ever make a good one?

Communal garden Mavic 321's and Im still running them

 what's a shared garden got to do with it? and on the rim choice I thought that was a modern disk rim bud? Was there a retro version?

Communal garden, common or garden. Its like rhyming slang I guess ;)

If early 90s, I concur on the 231s. Trashed several other rims (Araya RM17 And RM400 and a couple of Wolbers) in the Dark Peak before going over to 231s. The 231s were the only ones I wore the braking surfaces out on.

But 217s were a huge leap forward.

Mavic 231 CD.

Still the yardstick by which I judge every other rim, road or mountain.

For the record I run Open 4 CD's on my road bike! ;)

Just before the 217... there was the 117

For me the 117 SUP Ceramic was simply the best. It's true, it was an heavy weight rim but good looking, unbreakable, very strong ceramic coating for brakes lines.

They are still very expensive then I guess I'm not the only one looking after it

any love on here for 121 ceramics?

i bought some for my bike because they were suposed to be a solid rim ;)

MA40 MB is cool. . . but just too tight to get a tyre on. . .
Yup, the campags are mega cool, and IIRC, the stheno is under 400g. And the concave does give a slightly larger braking area/ more time between adjustments.
But for me, the Sun zero degree/ lite was a proper rim, box wass, eyelets, machined sidewall- all the stuff it took mavic ages to catch up with, which is why it still lives on after 15 years. Around 420g, its 20 g lighter than a 231. Post 231 era, is for me, too new. You'll be talking compact drive next. . .
If you can find one of the tew tungsten caride coated zero degrees leaked out, you'll have a rim, that if well built, should last forever. ..

These were maybe a little earlier than the 90's but i think the best rim i can remember using was the Mavic Oxygen M6, i had a pair of these fitted to Paris Gao Dakar hubs on a Dawes Cougar. Rock solid wheels.
:D
