As you might have gathered, there is a bike of interest in (near Barrie) in McCleod. Yes, unlike Europe, nothing is really "closeby" in Canada. Closeby is a relative term. Mars is closeby Earth, relative to Pluto. The bike is one of the ones I tried to buy new but couldn't find in my ideal size. This specimen is one size down. Should work.

Nice bike - bummer about the 27inch wheels though. If it was a caliper brake bike you could do a wheel swap to 700c using long reach calipers from Tektro, but its trickier with cantis. I think there are some more modern cantis that have vertically adjustable brake blocks (or possibly mini vbrakes?). I have a mid 80's Miyata 1000 and can run 38mm gravel kings on it which makes it an ok gravel bike on the smoother stuff.
I also converted a Miyata 3X to drop bars and gravel king tires and it was great too - only sold it because I had to have the 1000.
Is it really difficult to get larger sized steel bikes in Manitoba and Ontario? If its made I'm sure I could get it in BC

My large Norco was shipped from BC. We have some bikes here, it's like they're growing on trees out west.

I guess we're the Portland of Canada so that makes sense. I would have thought Toronto would be awash in quality steel bikes gathering dust in suburban garages. Hell, the fellow who ran the "My Old 10-speed" webpage out of Thunderbay found lots of great old road bikes there over the years - and I lived in Tbay as a kid. Not cycling central.

Once again, "Canada close", T.O. is five hours away. I do have access to Quebec bikes though, they have a strong bike scene. I focus mainly on all terrain bikes, Ontario seems more road oriented. The op is talking extra extra large, those are tough to find
