my mates all did Taekwando while i was in exile up the other end of the country, and I said if I was living back down here I would probably take it up as well, well their family commitments and getting disillusioned with sessions made them give it up (they are all black belts), so today I find out one mate has taken up Karate, so I'm tempted to take it up as well.

Yeah, started when my daughter was born (two years ago) :D

I train three times a week, it's a mixture of freestyle karate and kickboxing. The same school teaches mma so the classes are interesting and varied - groundwork and self defence etc not just stand up :D

I am currently an orange belt black stripe - it's cost me a few bust noses, cracked ribs and a black eye with six stitches ...

I will hopefully be a black belt when I am forty

WD :D

i did judo and long fist kung fu when i was younger...needless to say i'm still soft as shite.

Yes Tae Kwon Do and Kupso Ive had a break from it because
of two frozen shoulders nothing to do with the above just a
loopy dog
I am going back to it shortly.

You actually have to fight

I've just been awarded my green belt in origami.

But only on paper, as the club's just folded!

I've done 16 years of karate and since emigrating have started doing doing thai boxing and MMA. I'd say do it, just make sure that you are enjoying it and having fun. Thats what its all about for me. Most of the guys I train with are great guys, and you figure out within a few weeks if they are the kind of guys you'll get on with. If you don't get on with a club, move on to the next :p

I did Ku-fu as a youngun but just didnt have it in me to fight the girls so gave it up.

I can still stand up and sit down cross legged and can also pack a mean slap.

We spar pretty much every lesson, sometimes for all lesson (other than warm up and stretch) :D

Grading is the most 'interesting' - my last three have included rounds of two on one ...

Cracked ribs seems to be a 'common' injury, especially with the lads that do comps (I don’t) :D

Cheers,

WD :D
