Anti-theft parts bin sh*tter.

We have that here too.
Understandable, the police do need to prioritize, and they have their hands full enough keeping an eye on social media for hurty viewpoints.

Don't know about you
but I'd much rather fight crime
from an ergonomic swivel chair in a heated office
rather than 2am on a rainy night down the Stokes Croft Underpass

The Netherlands averages nearly a million bikes stolen per year.
yer, but that's a cultural thing so we can't really talk about it. :)

I have a friend from Amsterdam (now lives in Rotterdam). She used to routinely have bits from her bike stolen. The solution in Amsterdam was to steal those bits from the next bike along. She wasn't the only one who took this approach, by her account it was the norm rather than the exception.

things break. 1 broken saddle equates to 500 thefts of a saddle, eventually it gets all the way round and the original thief has their saddle nicked. I've checked, there are actually on 500 saddles in Amsterdam, true fact*

* note, not a true fact.
wasnt there a song about that or am i getting confused ?

I was in Amsterdam last year and there were so many bikes locked up with parts missing... some of them had been there a very long time too.

Phase 2: The Shittening

I applied a couple of thin layers of oxidizing paint, which reacts when exposed to a second solution to produce a rust-like finish, allowed it to dry then another rough coat of red and yellow.

Cured for a day and sanded back to break through the top coat.
The dark grey shows the oxidizing paint before I introduce the reactive solution.

I dry dabbed a little of the rust paint in a few spots to add texture, hopefully this'll give the impression of quite serious rust issues when the next phase is complete.
