And today I did......

Today i righted a wrong. I have been depressed since i sold my beloved Alfa back in October and decided i needed another. I have just bought a barn find '65 Giulia Sprint GT with just 26,000 miles on the clock. Its very sound but needs a full rebuild. I'm not going to mess around with this one, once stripped the shell will be going down to The Midlands to get the shell acid dipped and phosphated before restoration. I will then build it back up with all the best parts including a race spec 220bhp twin spark motor. It has to be perfect, afterall the old one is one hell of a hard act to follow.

I feel happier already. ;)

Went to pick up the car to take to he garage, not a great start to be honest. A quick check of the lights found a front sidelight lamp gone and some goon has clipped the drivers door mirror and broken the glass.

Am I correct in thinking a car only needs two rearward facing mirrors?

only needs one but it does need to be on the drivers side. - you can just stick in a plasiglass mirror on top of the broken one - I've had my drivers side one like that through 3 MOT's now. You might want to change the bulb first too - some garages take advantage of stuff like that with ridiculous fitting costs.

Bah, I've just checked the regulations and you don't need three but if a mirror is on the car it must be in good order with no cracks. I didn't get the chance to change the bulb as I didn't have time. I'll just have to change the mirror glass or as you say cover it. The full mirror housing is well over £100 unpainted as it is electric, heated and all that nonsense we used to survive without.

IT PASSED!!!!!!!

First time, advisory to replace the drivers door mirror and that's it, the bulb mysteriously started working again.

The first time in 25 years of owning cars I have passed an MOT first time.

Think I may have to buy myself a wee treat with the money I had set aside for it.

Yes. The chassis has been delayed though and looks like being june/july before it is ready. Alfa is coming first though. I have just measured up and the Ford Chassis will fit on the office roof in the workshop, so it can sit up there until the Alfa is finished.

Starting the stripdown now. Shell is really solid but the floors are rough. Looks like the African roads have taken their toll.
