The Steamie in Newington Road... this seems to be a pub that has escaped me in my 11 years of research in Edinburgh. The only one on Newington Road that I can remember was the one on the corner with West Preston Street that all the Scottish Widows staff went to, and consequently, I didn't.
Used to drink fairly regularly in the Junction Bar, just round the corner though. And the Southsider, Old Bell, Leslie's, Bennet's, Bennet's, Mather's, Mather's, The Blue Lamp, Cloisters, The International Bar (a lot!), Whistlebinkies, The Hebrides, The Doric Tavern, Jingling Geordies, The Royal Oak, Sandy Bell's, The Tap o' Lauriston, Burlington Bertie's, Jamie's, The Tron, Milne's Bar. And more much more, depending on where I stayed and what company I kept.
I probably drank too much at that time...
