This weekend I've received some bits in the post for the Pahoehoe. The extra click on DX thumbies to get eight speed I found unsatisfactory (that 200 micron difference in sprocket pitch between 7 and 8 speed was too much) so I've admitted defeat and gone down the Rapidfire style route.
However unsure as to what is best I've acquired two sets of shifters: nice all metal XT ones, near mint M739; and a SRAM mix of an X7 front shifter and Attack 8 speed rear, Attack being the Shimano-pull equivalent of X7 so they look the same- they haven't arrived yet.
Decisions, decisions.
Either way it frees up a really smooth rear thumbie to go on Tufftrax one, and save my own dear thumbie which struggles to shift the existing one.
Also in the post came a Hollowtech crankset and BB to replace the SR Suntour one that is on the Pahoehoe at present.
Meanwhile, the Kevin Winter 725 framed fast tourer has all the bits in place to commence building after a bit of paint touch up. I am a bit concerned that I might have lost a washer off of one of my Maguras though.
The snow has gone enough to allow cycling here, so I managed a trip to the pub and back last night.
