And today I did......

Mike how the hell did the seller get that Trimble into that padded envelope?

Wait a minute that's one o them inflatable frames you can get at the
shows like the blow up claw hammers innit?

.

This weekend I've received some bits in the post for the Pahoehoe. The extra click on DX thumbies to get eight speed I found unsatisfactory (that 200 micron difference in sprocket pitch between 7 and 8 speed was too much) so I've admitted defeat and gone down the Rapidfire style route.

However unsure as to what is best I've acquired two sets of shifters: nice all metal XT ones, near mint M739; and a SRAM mix of an X7 front shifter and Attack 8 speed rear, Attack being the Shimano-pull equivalent of X7 so they look the same- they haven't arrived yet.

Decisions, decisions.

Either way it frees up a really smooth rear thumbie to go on Tufftrax one, and save my own dear thumbie which struggles to shift the existing one.

Also in the post came a Hollowtech crankset and BB to replace the SR Suntour one that is on the Pahoehoe at present.

Meanwhile, the Kevin Winter 725 framed fast tourer has all the bits in place to commence building after a bit of paint touch up. I am a bit concerned that I might have lost a washer off of one of my Maguras though.

The snow has gone enough to allow cycling here, so I managed a trip to the pub and back last night.

Today I drove down to see Kaya and pick up my old Stumpjumper. I'm going to strip it down tonight and rectify some of the scratches on the frame. I should get away with just painting the seat stays, top tube and fork blades. Rest of it is so perfect that the chips and scrapes really let it down. It should keep the guys in the paintshop away from playing Grand Tourismo 5 for a few hours if nothing else.

I think I'm going to ride it at Cannock in a few weeks. That or the Klunker (which has not done a long ride since May).

CB Zagota frame for the weenie build finally got here from Dorset. Unfortunately it had received minimal packing ie. a wee bit of bubble wrap and thus gear hangers bent as is dropout. However as it was described as a bit rough I have no way of being sure if it got damaged in transit

Not a problem though as gear hangers can be cheaply replaced and dropout has been carefully bent back in line plus the frame is to be SS'd so no gear hanger worries for the future as I have other tensioner solutions up my sleeve.

Its definitely getting Nitromors as its deep pink colour is offensive and the finish is very bad. No pictures yet.

Slightly disapointing on weight, will need to get loose with a drill and grinder (need to buy grinder)

today I got offered a new job - same shit just a different local authority :D
It's a difficult choice though - stay with Edin Cooncil and get abused and threatened on a daily basis in the city or move to East Lothian cooncil and get abused and threatened in the nice countryside :)
plus points are a 5 minute cycle to the office :D and staff MTB's to go out patrolling on   - Looks like i'll be changing job soon :p

thankfully i get to cover the whole of east lothian :D
i'll suss out what bikes they've got - might be able to use my own and claim mileage  mmmmmm retrobike patrolling!!
