And today I did......

all the GT regulars bike's will be tucked up in a shed and the owners
will all be off doing something else

so best time to dig it up ,there'll only be wierdy cyclists there at this
time of year

Had a rough week - lost a good friend way way too young. Haven't even thought about bikes since I found out, but that's nothing compared to what her family were and are going through.

So, instead of bringing you all down too much, I need ideas for some charity fundraising to do next year in my friend's memory. It needs to be a physical challenge, ideally suitable for a few people to do together as a team and it has to be BIG. And I mean BIG, first thought was John o'Groats to Lands End but I think I want something even bigger becuase I want to capture people's imagination and raise a lot of money. What ideas from the collective wisdom? If it helps a fair few of our group of friends are into bikes.

Sorry to hear about your loss bud :(

I lost a close friend earlier this year, we all ran the marathon (in aid of Marie Curie) as he would have found it hilarious what we put ourselves through (I can hardly run for a bus  )

Hi rumble, sorry to hear about your mate.

On the charity event side of things some of it will be down to what you can do, but it might also be nice to include/incorporate something your friend might have wanted to do. Don't know if that helps though.

Some ideas...
Cycle or Canoe a big river source to sea. Canoeing the Tay would take about 4 days, Danube, a few weeks.
Cycling a route that takes you through places he lived/visited.
7 stanes in 7 days (or similar)
Coast of Scotland/Britain.

Thanks guys - TK I like the river idea. Last year, for no good reason other than to see if it could be done, I did the river Dee from source (Braeriach) to Aberdeen Harbour breakwater in a day on foot and by bike, including 4 munros. It was a good day - might see about doing the other major rivers in Scotland or something similar.

I'm pretty fit once I committ myself to training so I'm not really limited by that. I do want to pick something that seems "extreme" to the average joe non-outdoorsy types I'll be hitting up for sponsorship. I've already done a marathon and vowed not to do another so that's out. All in all, I just want to make something at least a bit positive come out of this.

A group of friends known to a work coleague of mine cycled the length of the Caledonian Canal.

They cycled on the canal by using a four seat pedalo of their own invention which they done up like the Loch Ness Monster. Utterly knackering apparently but a good charity stunt

I'm sure what ever you do will be epic ;)

I'm up extra early this morning. A good 4 inches of snow overnight so im off out for a pre-work SnowKlunk on the Schwinn.
Lots of snow up on the moors too which should make the weekends ride fun.
