And today I did......

Re:

We use a wee 800w halogen heater out of Homebase to take chill off the extension rather than run the underfloor htg, 35 quid I think it was and does a great job of heating a 4x4 spca.

I use a cheap Chinese diesel heater in the workshop. Had a few issues with it but when it works it's great. Maybe I should have gone for the Russian Planar like we have in the van though as that's never missed a beat. Before that or when it's playing up I use the old Bialaddin paraffin pressure bowl fire.

Today I went to the Post Office on the bike - too far to limp & I couldn't be arsed de-icing the car. Four miles & paying for it now but love riding in the cold.

Re:

I'd planned to do some Strathpuffer replacement therapy today, ride from dawn till dusk, so I was up and at the trails car park early this morning.
Unfortunately things weren't looking good, the car park was sheet ice, and once onto the fire roads around the forest it was more of the same , about 25% rideable, the rest was a get off and walk/slip/slide
I think last weeks snow was compacted by the multitude of walkers partly thanks to the lockdown, and this had melted and re-froze over and over, its not really been warm enough for it to melt away yet.
I'd encountered the same problem elsewhere last weekend but at least there the trails were ok once you got into the woods.

So I slid back down the trail and headed home!

Oh well...

I did some balance training.

I'm training my granddaughter for her military physical test so we ran 8km on basically sheet ice except where it was broken ice with icy water below. Our feet were soaked within minutes.

She did complain about that, but I told how lucky she was to be a Highlander, we have a genetic advantage and it wouldn't be bothering her soon. Sure enough within minutes she could no longer feel her feet.

Re:

I don't get how having such bad peripheral circulation that your feet go numb is a genetic advantage to being a highlander :?

Surely good circulation so everything stays toasty would be an advantage. Next you'll be saying 40 fags a day a bottle of single malt before breakfast is a healthy diet

Re:

Last couple of weeks including today I have mainly been working on project "Woodlark". That's my single speed wooden off road bicycle for SSUK2021 if it happens in September. Mainly I have learned important lessons such as a plan both imagined and physically down on paper is a good idea. I am a Bodgineer not an Engineer and have difficulty thinking like the latter. I tend toward tinkering and adjusting as I go based on the stand back and stare approach as I cogitate adjustments. Result, the mark 1 Woodlark has been dismantled with a saw to contribute parts to the mark 2

Anyway I have a better plan now but I suspect the Woodlark mark 7 at least will be the finished article

Anyhoo if anyone wants to take up the silly challenge with me and Epicyclo then feel free and possibly sign up for the SSUK2021 EVENT

Frame only has to be made predominately of wood. Obviously bottom brackets, headsets, dropouts etc will be metal most likely. Extra brownie points for more wood components such as forks, seatpin, handlebars etc. Epicyclo might try wood wheel rims but frame and fork for me only initially. Second condition if you take part in SSUK2021 is it survives one lap of the events course. More successful laps are of course desirable from a structural safety point of view :-)
