Yeah Barry I did look into a few things and am still a bit undecided, well not a bit, just undecided. I used to be undecided but now I'm not so sure
I did look into stripping my frame and gradually wet and dry sanding through about 6 stages all the way to steel wool and then clear powder over the bare frame. I had seen one done in Japan and while it wasn't powdered it looked great. You could see the heat marks from the welding and also all the brass from the brazing etc. The thing is I wanted powder coating so it would be durable for off road and the salt water I do but two powder coaters and various other sources said its a bit risky whether it would last as if it gets a section chip or lift then the moisture would get underneath and you would then watch it spread under the powder. Others thought that might happen early on so advised that the work involved could make it quite costly and might not last long. Then with a major layout on my car last week with new timing belt, aux belt as well as shocks and then the labour for removing the whole front end of the car to do it, I think I am lucky I don't have to sell the bikes and the car to pay for it
So it looks like its back to the original plan of a straight powder in either the orange of the Surly Troll with white decals or the Truckaccino tan colour from the Long Haul trucker I originally ordered. I like the Truckaccino colour but it will most likely be the orange as typically for me that was the colour that kicked off wanting to paint it. I said to Heather, I really like that Troll with the white decals and bright orange paint and she said, why don't you paint your Pugs that colour, you keep saying the whites boring and the orange will hide the rust. Don't know whether that was a backhanded compliment looking at it now
