went and picked up this
P1010288.jpg

it's been sitting at my LBS for a couple of weeks now and after a discussion
it was mine plus £20 for some drop offs i had lying about
its i think a raliegh yukon but as the paint looks a bit done in a shed
mebee its a fake

i might just rape it of the groupset as its quite un used tho it is 200 gs
as a comparison i dug out a low end dale from 91
P1010300.jpg

the dale weighs about 23lbs the catalog weight for the raliegh is 31lbs
feels nearer 35 tbh
so what to do with it ?
ride as is
hot rod it in a velo white lightening style
break it

that headtube looks ripe for a drop bar conversion :)

I think you should paint the bike ZZ rather than polish- I don't miss the cleaning on the old killer v- do some sort of modern art number- dr s did an amazing paint job on his commuter- looked great- mix up the media's, spray paint, enamel, oil, watercolour, feathers, glitter- go to town!

Or do it Kamo :D , an Avakamolanche

Sorry, had a knock on the arse earlier, bit of a problem as my brains are there :)

loving that nice score

I gave the splatter some love, new bottom bracket, sorted the wheels and a general tinker- off in the morning to give her a thrash.

also started to take the road bike apart- think the old girl will scrub up nice, can't believe how heavy the wheels are  thought these road bikes were meant to be light (prob not the low end ones I suppose)

Glad you had a fab day- jimi ok, saw a post so he must be alright.

apart from picking that up ,i had a kin nightmare day

wifey and her dad are off on a cruise ,his carer dropped out, so midday thursday wifey stepped in to go. been one non stop whirrl of getting
organised ,so this morning heads to airport to drop them off 10:30 ish
thought seeing as i'm in edinburgh i'll go for a lookee round the bike shops after so 11:40 ish gets a call from my daughter ,fone mum , "we missed the flight" ..... so heads back to airport ,not so easy as half of edinburgh is dug up for the trams (loooooong standing edinburgh joke) gets to air port
parks car in short stay goes to find wifey & paw , need to get a train she says flights to southampton booked , so back into edinburgh to waverly
get there eventually ,they get train
get home 5 ish ,knackered ,but get out on new toy

so karma sort of day

Mikee, loving that Raleigh and its paint job, i'd keep as is and do nowt to it.
Style wise looks just like the Raleigh Mountain Bike team 531 i've just got off TK but way better finish than mine which has been through the wars

good work Rob

After my mechanical at K'Tree, managed to get the bike sorted as a SS and got back down the red to carpark with reasonable success and fun

Today i have did a bit of cursing after realising everything chainset and bottom bracket related on the Raleigh MTB Team is seized
To remove the chainset i need to remove the BB axle endcaps which are metal with a hex key fitting hole in the centre. The endcaps are seized and the hex key holes are rounded so I cannot remove them. The adjustable BB cups are also seized as are the chainset bolts. Basically anything with a thread are point blank refusing to shift

Bearing in mind the whole bike cost me a tenner and has some nice bits on it I reckon I'm going to cut and run. I'll save the bits I want that I can remove and the frame will end up at the BikeStation where they can decide what to do.

You win some you lose some, this weekend I mainly seem to be losing

angle grinder/dremel the tool of choice there velo
work inwards to the cups
then dremel or chain drill the cups out
adopt the attitude that its f**ked anyway and you'll be fine

spent an hour or so on the yukon today ,managed to remove 800g
from it just over a pound and a half by replacing the seat and post and
removing the mudguards/reflectors and other crap
every thing is just so heavy on it the front wheel/tyre is 2.1 kg

will do a bit more as the week goes on but dont want to change it too much
think tyres next ,something a bit grippier ,got some dx cantis i think i'll
fit need to fit some proper blocks anyway then lighter bars
might change the b/b too
