And so it begins. Bespoke build. Here. Page 9

Re: And so it begins. Bespoke build. Guidance/advice please.

Hmmmm there is an extra tube isn't there? But with the length of seat and head tube needed?

Maybe that's why. But head 1 1/8 headtube is larger?

How much mineral oil is enough for a set of brakes please. I have to thread the rear cable so presumably will need to drain it first?

Never done any fluid type brakes before. Made it a rule on all my cars and bikes. Same with gas fittings at home.

Re: And so it begins. Bespoke build. Guidance/advice please.

As long as you only disconnect one end you won't need to drain, but you will need to bleed them tho.

So will they be full or dry now?

Have a bleed kit on the way inc funnel and 50ml. Will get some more oil then. How much do you suggest worse case scenario?

Re:

Depends how crappy the existing stuff is, 100ml should be fine. The little reservoir funnel is actually quite a good idea to reduce spillage. Cut the hose for the position you normally set the brake in for riding (inclination), fit the olive / hose insert and tighten up according to Shimano instructions. Last time I did it, I bled the brake and cut the cable with the lever horizontal, then when I rotated it in to the riding position I had too much hose  muppet. By which time it was too late... Some Shimano generic instructions can be found here: http://bike.shimano.com/media/techdocs/ ... 746864.pdf I expect there probably are SLX specific ones on techdocs

Err I assume you know you need a hose insert as well as an olive? There are two types of barb, steel and brass. The brass has a smaller ID. I don't know which one SLX uses, but they look like this:

or this

http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/shim ... p-prod1801

see what the part number is on your brake hose and order accordingly. Have you the little clamps to hold the hose in the vice while you fit the insert?

This is all good stuff. Thanks. Don't assume I know anything about this because I don't.
