AMP F3 fork

Hi all , thanks for all your help and yes F2 forks are circlips and F3 are 1/4" unf dome screws and they might be hard to track down ,and thanks for the offer of the clips but i have got an F3 set of forks , as to the DU top hat bushes might be a bit harder to find . Yes the yanks can not handle metric used to work for an American race car firm ( Penske ) on the up side i have a lot of unf -unc taps and dies , so were to next , did the $160 include the damper ?

I thunk the f2 forks are held together with circlips so different kit required . I don't remember the o rings being present on a set I had and serviced, but I could be wrong as it was a few years ago now. I do have some f2 spares somewhere.

My F2s have the alloy screws! I thought maybe someone had rebuilt them long ago with a later kit, but having looked at them closely, it looks like they have not been touched in 20 years! Personally, I would prefer the circlips as the screws are a total pain when they seize-up.

Absolutely, the alloy they are made from is so brittle that they tend to crumble after a time, leaving the threaded part behind when removing them (like a few of the missing bolts in the set for sale that apparently I've been impolite about). I would not have thought sourcing some equivalents would be that tricky, aside from the thread, as form wise, they are much like the old canti bolts. An option I've thought about is to use standard head bolts but perhaps with some sort of washer that creates the dome shape. I've seen some motorbike faring washers that would work, and recall seeing some people had used them for trick/coloured canti bolts (instead of the x-lite style cups for the bolts).

So rude you were ! yes looked at the fairing bolts but they M6 and not 1/4" unf , so looking at TI or Stainless Steel , if the fairing bolts had a plain shank then i could die the rest of the shank down to 1/4" unf , thanks for the help :xmas-cool: still looking on e-bay .

What the hell an i thinking of , sod the screws , make NEW shafts with M6 threads and then aluminium , Ti or Stainless Steel screws ,any thoughts ???

That is definitely the way to go! :D

I had bits made for my F4

I needed a collar for one of the side springs and the cnc guy noticed all the other pivots were cracked so we made the lot out of a modern alloy way stronger than the original material.
Replaced all four pivots(ends of the dampers), the 2 collars for the springs, plus 2 new springs approx lb to the original ones.
Including the springs was i think £110.

Got a thread on it somewhere :?
