i have a full sus frame at home that is is bare aluminium. it looks alright as it is.

Aluminum frame
I have a 91 Funk that is bare polished aluminum. on the advice of Charlie Cunningham, I use medium fine steel wool and soapy water to bring up a chrome-like finish in just a few minutes-after polishing I apply car wax and buff that off for a finish that is good for several months-then repeat. I don't clear coat it because the clear coat can yellow or craze and it doesn't take long to do the polish job. Mrkawasaki took some pictures of my bike and they are posted in the gallery under his California trip-check it out!
