Just to add to what Dyna-it has said, with the hope torque arm system you will also need a hope xc or bulb rear hub that has the correct “short” axle that goes with the torque arm system. Also as Dyna-to has said the hub needs to be the 5bolt version with the removable spider. The 6 bolt hubs will fit but it’s a pain in the ass to fit/remove the wheel, I know this as I have tried.

Seems like a royal pain
I reckon I’ll stick with Magura disc front and HS33 rear if it turns out (as I suspect) that there are no mounts at the rear - but this thread is invaluable help to others like me unfamiliar with discs - should be a sticky!

To be fair it’s a good setup (I have it on 2 bikes) and isn’t a pain at all as long as you have all the right parts to start with.

Re the Maguras I’m sure I’ve seen the early Magura discs with the same lever as the hs33 which would be my choice as I have a bit of ocd for things like matching brake levers.

I don’t doubt the setup - it’s just that I’m atbtines pretty lazy - would rather something quick and easy - unless
Of course it’s worth it - and to be honest the frame I have is nice enough but not worth the trouble - and yes I’ve that OCD too! The levers have to be the same or as close to being the same as possible - :)

Re:

So it looks like you're sorted for a front disc brake with those forks? All you need is the right adapter to fit caliper to fork at the right distance to work with whatever size rotor you choose, Oh, and a wheel with a disc hub to hold the rotor of course!

I've used the A2Z rear adapter before and it worked great, only I think you need large flat dropouts (I used it on a Zaskar) for it to work. I tried it on a steel frame and it wouldn't fit (unless there's different versions of the adapter?).

Anyway, the odd lever thing really grips my sh*t! I just can't build a bike with odd brake levers  you could use V-brake levers, cable front disc, v-brake rear. I've done this in the past and it worked pretty well. If you go hydraulic disc on the front and went with Magura then you could try a matching lever for the rear. But you're getting into some experimental stuff there...

Changing to discs can be an expensive faff, but ultimately it's worth it imo.

Re:

As suspected - no disc mounts to speak
Of on the rear triangle
So wouldn’t mind seeing some pics of a set up which has say Magura Disc front and HS33 rear ?
I’m also curious to know which was the very first XTR group to feature disc hubs?
M960 I believe
So I’m thinking M960 front disc hubbed wheel and a rear M950 - maybe too expensive - so I’ll see what I can do - have to stay within a reasonable budget - surely disc at the front though - so all I need is a matching wheelset which doesn’t look odd.

here are a couple of pics of mine, you can't see but the rear wheel is also a disc hub, doesn't look too out of place

the levers are obviously different, but they're not too noticeable, and more importantly the levers themselves have almost the exact same shape so they feel very similar to operate

I previously had a XT V levers, with an XT V at the back and BB7 at the front, that worked very well, but I had an urge to go hydraulic

Thank you!
Your bike looks superb and is inspirational !
Thanks as this is basically what I want to do or rather the only straight forward option for hydraulic
Just out of curisosity - what Hubs/ Rims?
Thanks

Re:

I think they're hope pro 3, and Mavic EX(can't remember the number), but they're rim brake rims.

If I ever have time and spare funds then I might swap the front rim to something similar but in a disc version, and the rear hub for the non-disc version, but I'm not really bothered. I bought them like that, at least they're compatible with any 26" wheel bike :)

The forks will de swapped or painted first, I'm still not convinced by the colour
