A big hello to everyone and Alpinestars advice needed..

Retro Newbie
Ive been restoring old 80's bmx's for a few years now and pretty much have all the bikes i want so am now venturing to hopefully build some nice classic mountain bikes to live alongside them. I have very little knowledge though compared to bmx so expect lots of questions to be asked for the forth coming months..

I found a grubby old Sarecen Tufftrax a while back and left it stored in the garage for about 8 months until a couple of weeks ago when i stripped it and give it a good clean up... Well i think its come up pretty well and am quite chuffed, on research it seems all original bar pedals but i think i may have sourced some of those so hopefully thats first build bike finished. Problem is its not the right size to ride as I'm 6"2 and thats a 19-19/5 so i need another build..

Ive always wanted an alpinestars and have Ive since found one that should be an easy build.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/191475123689? ... EBIDX%3AIT
Its going to be more a retro build so i have a rider to start going out on but i can't find any information about it, literally anywhere on google so have no idea how it looked when first built anyway..
If anyone has any pics of one or can show me anywhere i can read up about it then id be really grateful..

Re:

Welcome Goose. Like the Tufftrax, very tidy.

From what I know the Axxx Alpinestars were some of the later ones, 1993 on-wards. That seems pretty expensive to me but I'm no expert. Don't think AS ever did a bad bike so it's a good base for a project.

Re: A big hello to everyone and advice needed..

Massive thanks for reply 'brocklanders'.. The seller thinks its a 96 and he's owned it since 98.. Ive offered £110 and pick it up tomorrow so hope its not to much over worth..

Its just that i can't find a single picture or reference anywhere to give more information about it..

Re:

if you do find a picture and want reproduction decals Gil_m on here does some fantastic work
I'm guessing he will have to draw up the art work since its slim to no chance of him having them in his archive

Interesting project though

Cheers Retro, I'm a graphic designer so if i can find a bike pic with original artwork id probably be able to recreate it myself but id certainly need his help to print them so massive thanks there buddy..

I have a similar age alpinestars I can take pictures of if you like.
I need to take some Diamondback pictures to send to him too!

The alpinestars is one of the last ones, 1996 or later, I think it's likely 1997. Not much following on here for the later alpinestars unfortunately. Someone on here has an ASR with a different style frame you you could work out the model decal design from.

To be honest I think £110 is too much for the frame only as you could pick up a complete bike for not much more. Saying that, if it's what you want it's worth it.

Re:

Cheers for links 'retrobike rider', massive help there, i think i should be able to recreate the graphics from one of the pics.

And the £110 price 'brocklanders' was for the full bike buddy, he didn't do himself justice really by putting the picture of just the frame as the first shot in the ebay advert, i only read further as title said 'Extras.PLEASE CHECK DESCRIPTION.', nearly missed it myself...
Here it is in bits.. Im thinking of getting the rest of the paint blasted and then get the old polishing equipment out and hopefully get it minty shiny if all goes to plan..
