92 Marin Indian Fire Trail resto from start to finish

Dirt Disciple
Hello all. I bought this steed second hand in 1997 to get a little more serious into mountainbiking and living only 15 mins away from Coed Y Brenin in North Wales, it was the perfect bike for me . Since then i`ve ridden it roughly 40,000 miles and has become my most loved and important mode of transport ever. I started using it for mtb trails and singletrack in the local forests ,inc some fantastic trails in Maentwrog and had the most fun i can have with my clothes on until the lose of my car which forced me to put road tyres on and start to use it for work and commuting duties.
Since then i have constantly used it for work and hasnt been off road since about 98 -99. With constant use over the years , various parts have shown considerable wear inc the 49t Pace outer ring ,which i kept in service for so long by grinding the teeth deeper using a die grinder! Anyway to cut a long story short , at the end of last year i decided to give it the love it deserves and rebuild it from scratch using period parts where possible. Its back on the road now and its fantastic, i`ve covered about 600 miles since with no problems and its going to stay with me for the rest of my life. Proper BO!

Bloody hell thats nice

How did you remove the pitting on the frame?

Are they NOS manitous?

Plenty of elbow grease my friend, the manitous are not nos but i was given the original box still with the price tag from Dafydd and Sian (who used to run Bikes Betws and then later the cafe in coed y brenin) for £450 odd ! It took alot of polishing with autosol, and what salt corrosion was there i blasted off with a sand blaster. Love it to bits! :D

Ps i also have a lovely 97 Kona Manomano which i`ve had from new and i upgraded that too. I will try and get some pics up soon.
