Frame repaint completed by Rourkes. Parts ready: decided to go retro-modern as the frame was altered by last owner to 130mm making rebuild to 6/7 speed problematic. Will aim to balance original spec and look with benefits of a modern groupset. Detailed build thread to follow...

..... BITD Sid Barras won lots of races but IMHO was never an exciting rider, just sort of hung around and sprinted at the end.......even if he did have a column in "the comic" lol

unfortunately that goes for a lot of sprinter-types. If it weren't for the tv razzamatazz and the sprint trains etc, riders like Cav might be like that too, as he can't climb or solo and would lurk around waiting for the finish.

Anyway (i'm not acting as sid's defender, as I don't really know him any more than a name from the past), but didn't he break away in one of the earlier "modern day" tours of Britain and ride alone over the yorks dales. I remember him climbing the top of Fleet moss, having gone over there (the other way) only the previous week.... or was that someone else ?

Yes, that was Sid. Flogged himself to death over the top and then disappeared between there and the finish. I reckon all the conti pros were chuckling to themselves at his efforts.

I know its 4 year old post. I bought a team Moducel bike off eBay a couple of years ago. One of Phil Baytons still in original paint. Done it up a bit with Mavic parts.

Would be great to see some pics now you have worked on it. I remember the bike from its eBay listing and it was one of 2 that Phil owned I was informed at the time.

Hi, it's been polished up. Managed to get some mavic parts, even got the chainset with the date stamp on it. I read these were pro issue. Didn't know whether to change the brakes to mavic and sell the modolo ones.
