A little project several years in the making. Deb obviously had various outfits over her F1 career but I’ve been able to source a few bits to give a flavour of the era. Formula 1 jersey, Vuarnet sunglasses and Etto Zebra helmet all date from the early 1990s. Thanks to @raidan73 and @ErikFive for assistance.
Some photos of the bike I found many moons ago. If anyone can shed any light on the then owner I’d be interested to find out a bit more for the history file. Thanks in advance.
Finally found the post with those photos on from 2012. Anyone on here know mungo? Doesn’t look like he’s been on the forum for years but I’d love to chat to him if anyone has contact details. Thanks in advance
Many thanks to @uno-speedo who has unearthed more photos of F1/08/S1.
There are a few photos of Formula 1’s against a wall backdrop taken at F1 HQ in Bookham, Surrey. Assuming this is photographed there and guessing early 1992. Hope mechanical discs and milled Shimano XT cranks.
A few from Cap D’Ail in France - the first round of the Grundig Downhill World Cup on 6th June, 1993. Fork legs now turned round compared to the factory shot. Still fitted with the Hope mechanical discs at this point but now sporting CQP cranks.
Six weeks later in the USA - Mammoth Mountain. Shimano milled cranks now re-installed. Custom big ring and chain guard made by Formula 1 for Deb to use here and at Vail. Magura brakes now installed and fork legs reversed again. The Formula 1 shock has now been replaced by a Marzocchi unit.
Very sad to learn Dave Price has passed away. He was very supportive of my nerdy questions about his Formula 1 bike project. He was very happy that his bikes were still being loved and discussed. Rest in peace Dave
Dave’s son Leon is Team & Sporting Director at Envision Racing which competes in Formula E. A nice tribute on their cars at the last race where they fittingly finished on the podium.
