35th Anniversary of the sport

Ooo, sorry I will miss it. I am doing a little framebuilding that weekend. Have a beer on me. Will you be riding the Breezer? That would be the ultimate in cool.

I was planning a bit fo an offroad ride this weekend with a mate who I have been riding with for over 20 years now, was thinking of taking my Kula as I hadn't ridden it properly in 8 months, now i'm thinking I should take something old as it wouldn't be quite right.

Here's a photo from the 2009 Repack anniversary. CK, Brian Harrell, Chris Lang, myself, and Joe Breeze!

If you get Joe out on the trails again for this aniversary, you and CK should be tapping him up for a Lightning Team frame each :D so when you ride with him you can use them and when you ride with Gary you can use the Hifi's!

Everyone welcome but please note this is strictly pre 97 bikes only.

Please don't take this the wrong way (I think that an anniversary ride is a brilliant idea), but why is the ride restricted to pre-97s?

What about people who are just as enthusiastic about biking, who want to celebrate the anniversary just as much, but who have a modern bike? I'm sure that they have just as many stories to tell, even if they don't have the bike to go with it. The chances are that they heard about the ride on Retrobike, so they already have an interest in all things pre 97, but may not currently have a bike that qualifies for one reason or another.

As Repack Rider says, the sport of mountain biking can be traced right back from the present day, to that day, so why exclude newer bikes when they're every bit as relevant?

As I said, I don't mean to get people's backs up with my comment. Just voicing my opinion that's all :)

Simple. This is RetroBike's celebration of a momentous occasion and we would like to see retro bikes being ridden. We also want to avoid someone turning up on a DH rig and a full face helmet to go hooning down the downhill track. In the spirit of those early events we want folk to ride the same bike downhill as they did the morning XC ride with.

We always welcome anyone on any bike to our area rides, but this time, just for once we would like to see everyone enjoying the old iron.

If anyone would like to come, but doesn't have a suitable pre 97 bike then please get in touch as I'm sure we can sort you out with a classic ride for the day.
Cheers

Cool  - totally see what you mean about the bloke on the DH rig...

Thanks for not taking my comments as some kind of dig too :) - hope the ride goes well!

I wish this still happened nowadays in races...

A 97 bike is a modern bike!

Personally I think anything post 1989 is a modern bike but '97 is the cut off date used here on RB for readers bikes so to avoid conflict thats the date we are going for.
