2011 Intense M9 FRO - owned from new and rebuilt

Interesting modification. I'd be very hesitant to trust that 3D-printed adapter, though. What is it made of?
Not sure of the exact material but I'm not concerned as it's only damping forces it's dealing with which, on a fork, are fairly low compared to if it was the spring side. I've had 3D parts made previously which have stood up to some fairly significant forces trying to pull them apart, and certainly far in excess of what this will be dealing with.

I remember the elastomer stack from my Quadra 21's firing into my chest under compression when the plastic threads on the topcap just gave up. Hopefully that won't happen to you!

Ahh, the mighty Quadra with early plastic. Perfection. Thing is, I get the concern, after all it's 'just plastic' but lots of forks have had plastic top caps over the years, even single sided 'modern' ones like the X-Vert Carbon which essentially had similar spring and damping rates to this 888, and not had issues. And that's spring side where the bottom out force with 50lb/in is 350lb, or 180kg (ish). In contrast damper side forces are pretty low even in rebound so it'll be absolutely fine. Bits like this have been fitted to numerous World Cup bikes over the years with zero issues. Even basic PLA has more than enough tensile strength with threads this size.

Even as a young man I knew you DH lads were utterly nuts (meant in the highly respected way),, then YouTube confirmed it...
Yeah there is this thing called fear you know, its a normal reaction to rocketing down a hill at high speed ;) 😂

Anyways, what an amazing bit of bike history for a bike that was used as intended asn as much as I prefer non sun bike that was stunning in original colour and even more so with the oh so bright paint 😎

Following with much interest.
And I still think there something wrong with you lot 🤣

All perfectly acceptable behaviour, not nuts at all! ;) Then again it's down to what you're used to and you do gradually build up, or at least I did, and having not raced DH for over a decade the proper big tracks are quite intimidating these days, especially with the bigger jumps as other than Fort William there aren't any decent sized jumps in Scotland. Well, there's Glentress but I avoid that place like the plague, and avoid the tweed valley in general tbh, so I just don't ride anything with more than sketchy drops or using rocks to clear roots and such. I think once a downhiller always a downhiller though, even as a kid I'd be going as fast as I could down any trail, whether narrow or wide, and my 'chilled' descending pace is still pretty decent. What I've lost is that top gear to click into when it really matters for racing because other than a few enduros I just haven't done it in so long. Techy stuff I can still ride quick though because that's all I ever really ride these days, both on 'built' stuff and trails in the mountains. I did a great one in the summer off Cac Care Beag (otherwise known as Lochnagar) and then had to sit at the bottom for twenty minutes waiting for my mate to catch up who thought I'd only have been a few minutes ahead of him - he then looked at my GoPro, looked at me and said 'F that'. Back when I started riding bikes you'd have wanted a DH bike for the descent (and still likely broken it half way down) while needing a trail bike to get up. These days the bigger bikes really are a true single solution for those of us who like that sort of stuff which is why my DH bikes just don't get used

All that said I may pull this out and do a DH race next year, although I'm not sure I'm okay with being in the Vets category for it. Last time I raced DH the Masters were still the 'old boys' and the vets were just ancient although a few of my mates from those categories are still racing these days. That cocky youthfulness has come back to bite me, some of the kids racing now weren't even alive when I last raced DH 😂
