2000 Marin Mount Vision Questions

Retro Newbie
Ok, so I've finally taken the plunge and joined Retrobike!

My latest retro-ish build is a 2000 Marin Mount Vision, though I've got a couple of niggly little things I've got to try and find out and get done for it.

I know it's compatible with disk brakes, though it's only via a rather strange mount. These appear to be like the poo of a rocking horse, so was wondering if anyone else has got any good suggestions?

Also, I need to try and find the rear shock mounts/spacers. There's the slightest bit of play on the back end and it's doing my head in! I've got the thoughts that I could bodge it, but I'd rather get it done properly.

Any wisdom is appreciated.

Danny

Re:

If it's the L-shaped aluminium lump with Marin machined into it you mean, you're right you'll struggle to find one.
Although that rear swing-arm doesn't use that mount/adaptor I don't think, it should have a normal IS mount fitting. The swing-arm the same shape as your's that I put on a Mount Vision front triangle could fit an IS caliper straight on, no adaptors needed. Can't see the IS mount in the pic, it might just be a v-brake swing-arm.

The shock mount bushes/spacers are easily sourced online at several suspension component sellers, no need to bodge, the mount hardware on frame/swing-arm shouldn't need to be changed unless somebody has effed them up.

Me too

Got one of these just after crimbo and having the same issue with finding a disc mount. I just got an alu offcut from the scrap bin at work and set to with the saw, file and drill. Slow work and a bit hit and miss but will get there.

I accidentally bought 2, a mount vision the same as this and a b17 which has the disc mount swingarm, so have been building that one instead.

If /when I get the adapter finished I will post up a template. There are supposed to be proper cad designs on the web but all I get is dead links.

Re:

I'm sort of at the same stage with bits of aluminium angle offcuts but need my wife to ask "when will you finish my new bike?" before I get started again. No idea why Marin designed it like that, it's just so OTT. The inserts/mounts in swingarm have quite a large thread so you'd think bolts that size are used but no there is supposed to be other internally threaded inserts that screw into the arm then the disc caliper adaptor bolts to that with smaller bolts. WTF?
If you want to go down the screwed insert + smaller bolts route instead of 2 big bolts you'll find that the v-brake mounts on swingarm screw into threads and have the required internal thread for smaller bolts. You might find though that when you cut them down so they are flush with top of screw thread in arm that the internal thread may not be all the way through and will need tapped deeper.
Look for a thread by big eck of MacRetro fame who made an adaptor to fit to his Marin, there were pics on the thread of it.

The holes in the swingarm are meant to be M10 threaded but mine look shafted so was going to either bolt and nut job or re thread it, bigger if needed.

I have had a good rummage through the forums trying to find a template and there are lots of different ways but none described in enough detail to help. I had a quick look for the post OCP suggested but no joy, will try again ehen I'm at a real computer instead of using my phone. The info is there somewhere, I think the OP is looking too so let's see if we can't get something sorted.

Any help welcome.

OP, I found a Web retailer who claimed stock of swingarm mounts and bushes, I will try to dig out a link for you.

Ours is a bit different...the one at the top is the one I think the chappy in the above pictures was making, the adapter at the bottom is the official one that fits the 2000 mount vision (and others I assume)

... and the swingarm looks like this, with horizontal holes rather than vertical
