Funny that this thread was brought back up. The stars n bars is going to the painters next week after a crack was discovered in the chainstay  I've had the bike around 6 months now, but the crack has prevented a build (and me dragging my feet getting it repaired and painted). Just the red portion will be touched up and hopefully the paint will blend and color match.

The size is 19" and I have two different build ideas for it. I will probably go for a more modern build at first using the Fox F80. After that, I plan on a more period correct build. I will be sure to share pictures at each stage :)

Thanks again for all the compliments on my speared Hot!

Wow ,That is mint, you've made an excellent job of that
Not too keen on the rear mech though :? would prefer a bit of polished alloy showing :)

Shame about the crack but its great that your staying with the original colour way.

looking forward to the build

Wow! Missed this one the first time round. Beautiful paint job, love the classic feel of spears/darts.

Good luck with the Stars n Bars! :D

I thought I'd provide a little more history on this bike. I talked with my buddy a little more about it (he's the original owner) and he was happy to give more info. He took advantage of the custom paint option and he liked the look of the Breezer's headtube paint with the spears/darts. The red of the bike was supposed to match the red of the marzocchis but it came out more of a brownish-red. He needed the bike for some upcoming races so he let it be. It was mostly a XT m739 build with m737/m738 hubs. He said he chose the gripshift just because he likes gripshift and the brake levers were chosen to save a little $$$. The rear mech was m739 but it broke and he replaced it with the current m750. Bars were Titec 118s and the stem was a grey Syncros. There was also a Ritchey Logic headset on it when I bought the bike from him.

This bike was never a garage queen and has seen many races and hard rides until maybe around 2005 or 2006 when my buddy started having back issues. I convinced him to sell it to me in 2009 and I rode it hard for a year and it inspired a modern custom steel build for me. The Hot still sees ride time but it's usually just messing around with my kids or on slower group rides.
