its been nearly a year and i still havent got around to finishing this thread. the heckler has been ridden almost daily and its had a lot of use in that time.... from looking at it, you can probably tell as the condition has declined a lot from the shiny frame you see on page 1.
work that needs doing is, the forks need to be rebuilt,( they are still plush but play is starting to develop and they dont sound too healthy at times either) the bike also needs a service with new cables. (the gears dont work properly the cranks creak etc) and it clearly needs to be cleaned and polished
the bike has had the tires changed. why i bought them in the first place is a mystery as the grip is terrible on and off road, and also the thomson stem has been swapped for a more period azonic shorty which i much prefer.
anyway plans are to strip it down completely to do the work and gradually put it back together (got a few new bits to go on)
work begins with a complete strip down and cleaning. ive removed most of the scratches with a soft wire wool, shined the frame up with halfords chrome polish, and its came up brilliantly
im hoping to send the forks off to 'justbackdated' for a rebuild. the internals inside the left sanction rattles inside and you can hear it when you ride. it also doesnt rebound on its own and relies on the right leg to bring it back up into position. the forks need new bushings too and i'll probably have the seals changed just to be safe
Heres My Hope TI-Glide/Mavic 117 wheelset from the heckler. They are in brilliant condition and even came with the original qr's. i think i got em for £100 cuz the seller liked my project The cassette is an XTRm950 and the tyres are IRC Trail Bears
I'm Possibly looking to change the frame bushings. Its not urgent but there is a bit of play on the shock (on the swing arm end) and, seeing as I have the bike in bits Its probably a good time to do it. Can anyone sugest somewhere I can buy some new bushings? The shock is a fox vanilla
the other thing ive decided to change, is because i dont really use the front gearing (and keep getting my levi's caught in the chain  ) ive decided to swap the double chainset for a single larger ring (possible 36 or 38t) to in my opinion improve the gearing. im gonna fit a bash ring and possibly a tensioner of some description as well. Also changing the XTR sti units for XTR levers and a single RH shifter
