Re:
I've never used my hermes as a seller. Had deliveries from them left on the front step when I've been in. Sounds like this is common practice. Local RM postie does it too but hes been the same chap for the last 6 years and we know him well. To the extent that we're happy for him to drop parcels inside the front door. But I do live on a farm in the middle of nowhere with cctv cameras all over (just in case!)
The worst experience for us was using UPS to send a snowboard from one side of France (Charente) to the other side of France (Morzine) 2 weeks before our snowboarding holiday. Both myself and my other half are fanatical snowboarders and have been for nearly 20 years so our kit is decent and setup up specifically for our riding style. When we arrived in Morzine there was no snowboard. Upon contacting UPS they said it was on route and should be there the following day. The following day, no snowboard. Tracking information said it has gone to Andorra. Anyway, long story short we eventually got the snowboard back 2 months later with tracking that traced it through America, Canada, France, Switzerland, Germany and eventually back to France and its original destination. The originally very well packed snowboard was no longer very well packed, had numerous scratches on it and damage to the base and a crack in one of the bindings. Looking at this it was obvious that someone had found out what was in the package by opening it and decided to take it on a snowboarding holiday themselves. Suffice to say my other half was very very angry about it as her previously pristine Daniel Franck limited edition board has now been trashed with no apology, offer of compensation or replacement (not that that was possible due to the "limited edition" bit). We won't use UPS ever again.
Or my Hermes after reading this and other issues.
