what would be the best forks i could replace this with without changing the riding position?

also, what is "the XC experience"?

By the Full XC experience - he means your long and low like a cross country racer from the 1990’s - head down arse up - The stem on that bike stretches you out

Al-onestar (great guy) has a fetish for Marzocchi Z1 and Z2 aka bombers (they were a step up from all others back in the day) and dislikes Rockshox, to be honest get the bike working and then think about the forks - new elastomers (internals) will freshen them up no end.

I can’t see a problem with that rear mech but can’t say I’ve ever owned or worked on one so will let others answer your question

Lastly that chain looks very clean / a lot newer than the cassette if it’s new then there lays your problem new chain old block is guaranteed to give you problems as they should be replaced together

by old block do you mean the cassette?

Yeah sorry meant cassette

wow they are pricey, lol, ok so what might be the best ones i could pick up second hand for under £100 -£150? :)

ok, got it. I hope to fix this bike up as cost effectively as possible so nice to know the chain looks new

My two beans:

1. Strip and clean everything
2. Replace all of the drive-train - start a-fresh so you know the age and wear of your components. I'm pretty sure the original shifters you have are incompatible with the more modern rear mech.

What you do next depends on your riding.

And here's your missing ---> "d"

Re:

It's what I run on the Team Explosif so for sure. Make sure you have a steerer or the steerer on this is long enough (the current one won't be). They benefit from a good service and ditch the boots.

Re:

Thanks grandmaster, most appreciated.. is the steerer the pole sticking up from the forks? how long should it be for my bike, Im guessing the same length as the ones on the rock shox that are on it already?

ok thanks. why is it no one seems to suggest the z3's orz4's or z5's much?
are the z1s or 2's just the best ones, or are they both better suited travell/dimensions for retro rebuilds of this type?
