1995 Diamondback Axis TT Pro

The pro was a 1995 year bike that had a higher level spec than the TT of that year, but the same frame. Titanium avid cantis, Hugi hubs/217 rims, AC crank, Curve titanium skewers, Titanium BB as the highlights.

Christ you’ve had some frames/bike 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

What’s the condition like overall?

I was worried that the important hard to find bits would be too tatty to rescue and I’d spend a fortune finding them again.

I’m gonna regret missing this aren’t I ? 😂

Promised myself I’d unload the bike and put it in the garage……but my self control is poor, so I took the barends and other accessories off and then smashed a light bulb on the kitchen floor….cue a stern comment from my wife.

Very high spec but yet the owner retained the dork disc, amazing!

I think you are,

Rings and crank look gunky but plenty of life. X-rays are cracked on the right side but it’s only small and was expecting to replace these with XTR shifters. Fork elastomers have left the fork via dust.

Wheels are perfect and frame looks great. It’s basically been ridden as a commuter, minimal distance and maintenance, but stored well.

I thought that as I was putting it in the boot. I love how you can piece together what type of person/rider they were.

Dork disc, cheap replacement seatpost, semi slick tyres, under seat bag, no chain slap, pump bracket and bell. Basically a commuter that thought as it got older it became less important I think?

Soft cloth wipe down and areas lightly cleaned so to access the parts/frame.

Really happy with it, frames near mint and everything else can be sorted with a bit of elbow grease. Worried the rings would be caput, but they look great.

Though I’ve never seen so much compacted grim in between the cogs of a cassette, it literal was packed full and had formed the shape of the chain.

Also slapped on (rears the wrong way) amber wall dart/smoke as I can’t stand black tyres on a retro bike.

Advice on whether to upgrade the mechs to XTR? I will keep all the parts removed to ensure I have the completely original bike if I wanted it. If it hadn’t of been so original/good I would have M950’d the old girl.

If you are keeping the parts you removed to restore to original glory one day, why not m95x the gearing? It's much better than m900 in the shifting department. Looks darned nice on a ti frame too. Mine started out that way in its first incarnation, looked great with grey flite, onza ules in grey and umma gumma tyres, along with ti syncros post, ti titec bars and stem, and the ultimate Judy fsx with Englund air and styff carbon brace. I don't know what possessed me to sell the forks and post, but it still looks good now, with pace to rc31s, black Thompson kit and m972 gearing and purple Paul's v brakes and levers.

Build it how you want to ride it, stick all the original bits back on when you want to make it a garage queen ;)

Forks off clean and sort the elastomers out.

Headset bearings are great with no pitting on the races/cups, even though they were dry on the bottom bearings. I don’t think it’s been removed before.

Put on some SID’s so it’s rolling and I can ride it once I have cleaned the chain, cassette and chainset.

Think it looks good on them.

Ti frames with blue SIDS always look so good.

However I’d keep this original as it looks so damn good and that’s the appeal for me. It could be catologue perfect with so little effort and it’s a bike they nailed from factory.

Regret not buying it now as I sold a DBR Ti axis frame a few years ago and fancied another.
