1994 KONA Hei Hei - Titanium - Last Minute Suggestions?

Re: 1994 KONA Hei Hei - Titanium - Suggestions Please =)

Thanks! The decals are a $10 kit from ebay. Not sure what decals I will use in the end, I just put them on because I really like how they look on the new Kona Rove :D

Just finished painting the fork... now we play the waiting game.... .... .... :D

Thanks! Only issue with using rattle can is that it's only single stage paint so it takes WAY longer to dry... I'm leaving it outside in the UV light all day today then it will probably need a good week in my basement until it's fully cured =)

As someone else has noted, the decals are incorrect for a 94 frame, if you are going to all the trouble of using inferior components of the period for originality why not go for the decals of that era also???

I haven't decided on the decals yet...

What do you mean by "inferior components of the period" ?

Do you mean "proper correct high end components of the period" ?

In my opinion components of that era don't compare with components available for MTB's today, so if your going to all the trouble to retro components when there better available why not go the same route with decals?

This is how it should look if you are going retro:

There are three interesting things about Kona bikes from 1994 which are:

1. 1994 frames were the last to have been designed by Joe Murray
2. 1994 was the first time the geometry of the Kona frame was adjusted for suspension forks.
3. After 1994 Kona lost their mojo, for example you can't get a decent steel Kona frame today.

Well... I think it's all a matter of preference... if you look at my signature you will see that I have quite a few bikes (I also have many more that I haven't gotten around to posting yet...)

When you have this many you have to come to the realization that building everything to spec gets boring... some of my rides are 100% original to the era, some are old frames with a fully new upgraded group...

and... some of them are just built based on my mood... I saw these decals on the Rove, liked them, so here we are =)

As for the rigid forks... I'm a Rocky Mountain guy... these are Tange struts... no surprise there =)

1.The last line of Kona's to bare the Joe Murray name were the '93 line. Pretty sure Joe was long gone by '94.

2.'93 Kona's were also adjusted for suspension as they came as an option (Rock Shox, Kona Z-Link)

3.After '94 there was plenty of good, high quality steel frames produced by Kona. Kilauea, Explosif, Hot with Tange,
Columbus and Reynolds tubing. Matter of opinion I guess
