Got a add to the shed, a Scott Peak, 1992 model by the catalogues scans

Need some work, left trigger/shifter don´t work as should, so only small chain ring can be used unless you keep the thumb on the shift level all the time. Seat post is a short steel one, should be aluminium, and seat post clamp is broken and it needs new brake shoes, shift cables as tires. The tires on it has lots of tread, but are dry rotten, GoodYear tires by the way!
Size is 17,5, spot on for me. Seller told in the add its a youth bike, but the short seat post was the likely reason he did belive so. Better pics in a near future.

Wounder if its juts a clip missing or the bolt has snapped?

Size was easy to say



Orange is a bit faded and fork has some chipped paint but other than this its nice IMO

I think you just need an E clip for the seat q/r.

Maybe you can take the front shifter apart? Can't see what model from the pics, but if you turn the bike upside down so bits don't fall out, you can take the cover off the shifter and have a look inside. Maybe?
 
I hope to hear that that just clip is enough for the seat QR, but will it need a shim/washer there also?

And can someone confirm the seatpost size, 25.8?

For the front shifter I have alredy WD40 working there. Had great result from using it and then some very light oil on whit several shifters. They are GS200 By the way, all transmission is GS200 on the bike and all stock parts still!
 
I had a 200GS on my first "proper" MTB bitd. (Wheeler 313 and yes, it _was_ a proper MTB compared to what I had before...)
Those shifters are the same as the LX at that time. And mine broke after one year of heavy use. As did the rear derailleur. Those parts were not made to work for too long... :roll:
That was the beginning of me fixing my own stuff. Replaced the broken parts with used XT.
 
So I did spend some time in the garage whit the 1992 Scott Peak.

I had the shifters soaked in light oil, and they started working, so a score whit that! :cool:

I did change the shift cables, inner as outer, as front brake cable to. The rear seem changed not that long ago so did let them be. Front brake pads was ok whit some sand paper usage, but rear needed replacing, had been badly adjusted and was uneven worn to the point they went to the trash can.

What else....yes some cleaning of corse ;)

And did tune the rear wheel as was some off, and did add some old "budget" amber walls I had around :cool:



Still to do
-fix the seatpost qr
-Find a 25.8mm seatpost,
got a used/second hand one from local shop, but was a 25.6mm :facepalm:
-Get a S sticker made for the other side of the frame


-And more cleaning to do............
