1992 Off-Road Toad (dark green)

First mock up, I had an idea to go with a set of Magura hydraulic rim brakes. I thought it made sense on a couple of levels: it would eliminate the need for a rear brake cable hanger at the seat collar (cleaning up the visual clutter), and the full length housing would mirror the full length rear derailleur housing down the seat stay. Red seemed nice, though these HS33s were from a few years later (1995/6?)...

Looks like it will be a tasty rider.

Can you try and get some photos that show the downtube shape, especially from the top (or bottom). I can see some of the ovalness in the pics from the side but would like to see the other shapes. ;-)

As much as I wanted to make the Maguras work, it felt like I was forcing it a little, trying to be different for different's sake. As much as I love the performance of Maguras, I keep coming back to the simple aesthetics of cantilever brakes. As I sat and stared at the bike and buildpondered (my favorite part of any build), I started to envision the bike as anti-bling, understated. The frame decals are low key, being black on dark green you almost can't see them unless the light is just right. For a moment I considered replacing the decals with white ones so they would 'pop', but I came to my senses and decided to keep it original. I felt that a no-logo (or close to it) would suit the frame. A workhorse without a lot of attiutude. Letting the pedigree do the talking, no need for chest thumping. I also want the bike to look ridden, not minty; as if the components have been on the bike since the early 90s. It's going to be a rider after all, not a museum piece...

Love your new concept. I have done the same before.
After all it was built as a workhorse/race bike at the time.
