I wanted to cater a little bit more to the black & white theme the bike had going… though I also wanted to introduce a little bit of titanium to the build as the acquisition of the Toad had me move along my Merlin.
The BOSS cranks look the part, but they are HEAVY! I decided to swap in black XT parts where possible… in the form of the front canti brake, hubs, and crankset.
I swapped the black Tange bars out for a titanium bar with a little bit more of a sweep and more width (I believe a titanium Titec Flat Tracker bar?). The first gen Syncros post was swapped to a titanium Kona O-Beam post, and two titanium bottle cages were added to achieve a little splash of titanium that I find has a satisfying balance.
The only other two changes of note would be that I removed the Ringle skewers and replaced them with classic XT, for a bike which I ride I just love to feel a satisfying degree of grab which the Ringle never assure me of… the toe cages on the previous m730 pedals were too long for my feet, and instead of swapping them out on the same pedals I opted for a set of the more low profile m735 with cages that fit my feet and Mt.Christophe straps.
And out for a ride around town to do some errands. It feels great with this set up, I took the long route everywhere I needed to go, and as usual when running errands I popped into a couple bike shops to see if there were any gems to find… this is definitely a bike that in Vancouver always manages to attract a bit of attention at the bike rack. I’ve not had it too long, but have had plenty of strangers reminiscing of their visits to the classic Mountain & Beach shop where these were spawned.
