    Klein size issue!!

I pretty much ignore seattube measurements when I look at MTBs. I have a 15.5" 1996 Mongoose IBOC with a 130mm stem, 560mm TT And a 19" 1997 KHS Comp with a 100mm stem, 600mm TT. I love them both. A slightly shorter stem on the KHS would be nice, if I see an 80 or 90 stem for cheep...

    How long is your steerer?

19" KHS Comp. 210mm steerer. 5mm spacer under, 10mm spacer over the stem. Thinking about putting the stem above all the spacers as I'm liking higher bars as I age. KHS : almost complete by Lester Of Puppets, on Flickr[/img]

Nice 1988-ish Nishiki Colorado. Portland, OR, USA

Unfortunately no closeup of the shifters, but nice Exage cranks, mechs and brakes (well, dunno what Ubrake it is). Looks great to boot. They're asking $90 but unless the market's changed it'll sit a couple days and bargaining could be easier by then...

    1993? Mongoose IBOC Pro

1991 seems like a good guess to me. 1990 still had bottom pull front derailer. I've seen one claimed '91 with a bottom pull, but I think they were off on their date. Looks like 1992 was the first year for Al IBOC Pro.

    raleigh amazon

Here in the states that would bring $50-100 depending on location. Parting out would not be worth the time. Actually, being lugged steel you could maybe pull $140 for it in a couple of cities. Nice looking bike though, IMO. Ooops, almost a year old post there. N/M

    1993? Mongoose IBOC Pro

Bikepedia lists the 1993 Pro as having Al tubing, dunno how accurate that is, though.

Univega Alpina Uno - tip rescue

I worked on one that I'm guessing was a little earlier than yours. Kind of a smokey chrome finish on this one. Ukai rims. XC Sport mechs and hubs. Sorry, that's about all I've got...

Are all bikes with plastic spoke protectors crap?

I bought a 1992 Bianchi Grizzly new and it had a pie plate. Pretty sweet bike it was.

    Panasonic Mountain Cat

Spotted another rare (to me) bike today and thought I'd share. I'm guessing early 1990s. Had 200gs mech hanging on it. The top tube boasts "All Aluminum". Panasonic Mountain Cat by Lester Of Puppets, on Flickr

Dissapointment with retro bike performance RESOLVED!!!!

Country Rocks do rock! I like taking them out on the trails too. You do slide out on most corners if you roll same speed as with knobblies but that's part of the fun! I have full blown slicks in 1.25" on my grocery getter: Black Baron Day 8 by Lester Of Puppets, on Flickr

Pleas help me identify my bike.

Could be a 1998 Wildwood, they came in red and have the cromo seattube listed. Pics don't show the seattube swoopy stripes tho. I have a feeling 98 wildood and 99 Outlook are same frame, but just guessing. If it's a 98 Wildwood, someone took its already cheap Altus crank and put an even...

Can a Off-Road bike be too light?

All I got is full rigid rigs and my 26 pound KHS is a lot more stable on rough fast sections but the 24 pound Mongoose is more fun overall. 27 pound Alu Trek is kinda in between in the fast ruffness. Less fun than the steelies overall.

Pleas help me identify my bike.

Yeah, the bikepedia.com page for the 99 DB Outlook doesn't even give 'em credit for the seattube. It's just listed as HiTen.

    How Come??????????

My favorite local car show is pre 1964 only. I think MTBs change pretty quickly though, even 12 YO bikes get me in a sentimental mood ;) I love my 50 YO bike but it's a ruff going uphill on. Soz about the 1998 bars and 2001 front wheel and 2010 front tire...

Pleas help me identify my bike.

It might be a 1999 Outlook, I'm on my phone ATM though, so can't see Outlook pics too well now.

Pleas help me identify my bike.

Definitely Diamond Back. Very low end. Around the turn of the century. Same stripes on seattube as my 1999 Diamondback road bike. You know it's bad news when they only identify seattube tubing. BSO= bike shaped object. I'd say it's half a notch above a typical BSO though.

I'd never heard of JMC. Reading his story now.

    STX Shimanos ginger step kid?

I've som STX RC bits and they work fine for me. Dunno why they got panned by the MTB press so much. The re-introduction of Deore to replace them in the lineup seemed to be considered an acceptable choice for more writers.

Here's my 1997 Comp. Absolutely no original parts unless by accident, as I built up from bare frame. Crossing the mighty Columbia on the KHS by Lester Of Puppets, on Flickr
