How long is your steerer?

I have some new forks that I probably won't be able to ever buy again in this condition. The steerer is around 1" too long, stem spacers look awlful.
I'm wondering whether to cut it down or not, it's currently 210mm and I'd like it to be 185mm. Will this leave me too short in the future if I change frame?
I normally ride a 19-20" frame.
How long are you steerers?

What forks? as i have a 185mm steerer/crown and i need a 200mm for Marzocchi bombers ;)

I ride 19inch frames and I'd say at 185mm you'll probably be ok but only just. I usually try to keep mine around 200mm because they then fit all my frames (should I fancy a change) and I reckon they're easier to sell on!

I have a 19" frame with an ahead steerer. Its a sloping frame with a Kona like lengthy headtube. My steerer is 226mm & there are 1 or 2 spacers under the stem without looking unsightly IMO.

I am looking for some suspension forks & finding something with a suitable length is proving tricky. I dont consider my 226mm length to be overly long really.

Keep as long as feasibly possible is my view. Quite apart from changing frames/selling on, never know when back trouble etc might make an extra 1-3" raise at the front the difference between riding/not riding.

I just sold an RC31 with a 200mm steerer, which was only just long enough for my 20in Kona -- had to use an Avid SAAGO stem which only needs a little bit of steerer sticking out. Very long head tube on that frame, though. 200mm would be ample for most things for possible resale purposes.
