the unofficially cool MTB drop bar thread

A Ritchey Timberwolf (very) unexpectedly showed up on the local CL a few weeks ago! No dents, but scratched, scraped, neglected, and generally just beat to shit. But the D-A hubs, 600 headset, and the BB were all good to rebuild! Deerhead F derailleurs never die, do they? Rims, rings, spokes...

    1983 Specialized Stumpjumper

huh...... did i miss something? while it is in super shape the spec doesn't match the photos (!) i'm no expert, but it looks more like a (84?) stump sport. all shimano brakes- no mafac or tommaselli there....... :?

You! I'm sure you can find a good step-by-step online and when you're finished you'll think "well that wasn't so bad, sort of fun actually" :D

Gear Cables for Suntour Xpress Shifters

i've been warning our mechanics not to cut those since they disappeared from our distributors catalogs last year......hopefully something will show up on ebay. hmm, now i'm wondering if a shimano 3 speed cable would fit, don't they have an end kinda like that? :?

    Left crank fell off!

exactly what service was the bike in to the lbs for? if it was a tune up they should have tightened it and should replace it. if it felt like crap when they tightened it they probably should have left a note on the service ticket and owe you an apology but not much else. sometimes you do the...

    bike weights

my goal on this 40/41 excelsior badged dx was to get it under 30 pounds with no obviously 'modern' parts. of course sub-30 pretty much rules out gears or drums

    Clicking, creaking headset...

my 2 cents- if it's already a decent cartridge bearing headset- make sure there's a thin film of grease on ALL metal-to-metal contact areas.........

    'MY' 1948 rudge whitworth

the paint is original- after a lot of time spent polishing away grime and haze (unfortunately the pinstriping went as well). the stem is just a lucky rattle can close match from the auto parts store. btw, the photos are very flattering to the finish.....

    'MY' 1948 rudge whitworth

i know this thread is a little old, but i'm new here so it's fresh to me.... anything british w/out a 'raleigh' badge is pretty unusual for us. built this one a few months ago. the headbadge and chainring get a lot of attention :)

    colorado klunker fan

well, this forum seems positive enough, let's give it a try. started mt biking in '82, inspired by the magazine photos of the marin/cb guys on pearl pass. as far as 'retro' is concerned my main interest is in building single speed klunkers :)
