Help Identifying this.....Cheap tat or middle of road?

Truth be told these are charming usable bikes (in the right environment) but we only have so much space and time (excepting @Guinessisgoodforyou obvs) so our efforts are better saved for more deserving models. But is it a crime to pinch the guards and saddle, then toss the remainder into the...

    XTR 960 spares?

If you've got the right parts, assembly is reasonably straight forward - it's getting the right parts in the first place. The cages are easily mangled in use. The rest of the derailleur is reasonably robust.

Where can I find 7/8s chainrings that will fit M900 and LX BCD110?

As a rule if they do 9 they should do 7 or 8. Sometimes 10s had an offset to the teeth from the tab, so thin chainring spacers might be necessary.

    XTR 960 spares?

Shimano tech docs should give you alternatives and part nos https://si.shimano.com/en/manual/search?input_model=rd-m960 As a rule it'sa pita and you're better off getting a complete derailleur, but if you enjoy a challenge...

    Kona Explosif Titanium Seat post

A very slightly loose post is a common cause of seat tube fatigue - often the top section will crack along the toptube weld. Ti is particularly prone to this. Inch- and -a quarter is 31.75mm - this is probably the internal tube diameter - many tubes are still supplied in inch sizes, even now...

Tire options for 1991 Specialized BX23 rims - can I go fatter than 1.95"?

The limiting factor to tyre size is the frame clearance. You can't go low pressure on a narrow rim with fat tyres though, they fold over. Hence the rise in superwide rims (and tyre width recommendation) with the spread of low pressure tubeless.

    Mystery and Unidentified Parts

Surely it's custom - you rarely have disc and canti on a production bike, and it looks handwelded rather than factory robot. What's the weight and a-c?

Sunday night pub quiz - Frame identification.

This style of frame was commonly used by other "intermediate" uk brands - like raleigh, cb etc I think that as they stopped the actual framebuilding and bought in frames, they didn't really see the need for custom details/geometry with associated additional cost, and just bought "off the...

Mercian King Of Mercia Build - Decisions,Decisions!

Not only that, you get a better chainline and lower q-factor, easier front mech setup, mech choices, and better shifting. This might also explain why it looks better...

Mercian King Of Mercia Build - Decisions,Decisions!

Triples of that era would be rare - and the left hand shift unit often got broken by over enthusiastic shifting on a seized front derailleur. Looks like you've got a 110 chainset so you could go compact - fit a 34 mid and lose the inner - I'm sure that xt Rd would handle a 34 cassette, but...

You'll ride the bike more with the stis. And it looks better to me because it works better. needs a shorter stem and forward bar throw compared to dt levers though Black finish in 94 was radical. Unfortunately now it's dull dull dull. It's been Specialized to death.🙄
