    Is my stem straight . . .?

Always relied on the grip the front wheel with knees and line up technique. It's always looked and ridden right enough. I believe, but have never watched them, there are techniques and tools demonstrated on youtube for the similarly afflicted to your good self. Alternatively, if this is a...

    Covering Hi-Vis, what's the point?

Some hi-vis, however obscured, is better than none. But you could be a mobile Xmas tree, and it's guaranteed that if you are hit by a car they "didn't see you there, mate". Unlike self driving car AI, many human drivers just don't notice other road users except those in cars.

Shortened Brooks Swift saddles - Does anyone know about these?

Asking Brooks is a great shout. They'd quickly be able to say, "nothing to do with us, guv".

Shortened Brooks Swift saddles - Does anyone know about these?

IIRC some of the Brooks saddles did have a hex head.

Are all crown races largely the same? (With pics)

A lot of crown races will work well enough if interchanged, but may leave bigger gaps etc which isn't great for water ingress etc. It's worth a quick fit to have a look. Missus' old kitchen knife does a good job - does not need an especially sharp edge. Helps if a bit flexy. I've simply pushed...

Erm … mirage in Reykjavik … well I never! (Caution….contains Klein content)

Probably aren't many on account of the weather and low population. Chances are that you will be spotted and identified by someone - even in a city like Reykjavik. Certainly true of Amsterdam - and very likely it is the bike owner who will ID you and their stolen bike! Reminds of an old MTB...

    Ali Express for tyres ?

LTWOO stuff looks very good for the money, and has been well reviewed by the likes of Trace Velo on YouTube. There's no doubt there are bargains to be had from up and coming Chinese brands, but also plenty of forgeries too. Ha...cross post.

Bulk mid-school Kona sell off - any market?

I'd probably sell as individual bikes. It will make a big difference if you are willing to post. Re: splltting etc - your time is also worth money and who potentially wants 60 things to individually wrap/post etc. And chances are there will be parts left over which are basically unsellable...

For Sale 1955 Henry Burton 'Burton Special' 24", 531, £215.00

Very tempting. Henry Burton were my local bike shop as a teen. Nothing but huge respect for the team there. I once bought a set of handbuilt wheels, and rather than post them he drove 60 miles to hand deliver them. I was so shocked I forgot to invite him in for a cuppa.

    Frame failure experiences

Yep, Ti the wonder material again. I think it's also quite easy to persuade yourself as a seller, and an owner that a crack is just a scratch - particularly if frame isn't creaking etc and you've been riding it for ages without problems. No-one wants to believe their pride and joy is now...

    1x10 cassette options

I find an 11-46 cassette paired with a 30t chaining works well. Would I like to go lower via a 50+ cassette or a 28t chainring? Sure - but this combo was cheap as chips. 11-42 would work well enough on a 32t if you can't stretch to a 46t. I've ridden that combo before too.

Pedals making a crunchy/clicky sound yet spin smoothly. Salvageable?

Pedals will spin freely even without any bearings in them. Friend of mine had some old Sakae's of mine - and when the cups were pitted, and the axles too they started making crunching sounds and being stiff to turn - so he simply dumped the remains of the bearings out. The pedals were loose, and...

eBay To Block Sale of E-Bikes

There was something like stability in designs before the bottom bracket motor came along with dedicated frame mounts - particularly with conversion kits. You simply swapped out a front or back wheel. And even dedicated ebikes looked remarkably like normal bikes. As the owner of one of the...

    Peak Cheapness?

Yes, and miraculously most stories seem to involve buying a bike well under market price, and selling another for well above it. As I say to my mates, it's not me you have to convince - it's your missus.

    Peak Cheapness?

For me, stripping and flipping is not part of the fun - and so if I did any (strangely I don't!) it would need to be costed in - and my free time does not come cheap!

    Peak Cheapness?

Yeah, I'm not sure prices of extremely rare stuff is indicative of the rest of the market. I daresay some Elvis stuff still sells for big bucks, but most of the rest of it goes for peanuts. The natural collectors of retro bikes are aged roughly 50+ - and either have what they want and/or...
