    ABC system brakes

Re: I seem to remember reading about these in the 90s. I believe they are some kind of ABS system like on cars. I don't know how it works, or if it works. I guess they weren't a success. Never seen these anywhere.

    Rear derailleur identification

Not 100% sure but it looks like an early nineties Shimano Alivio. Heavy and nothing special in their range, but a solid piece of kit that should work faultless for years. But you Alan is worthy of something better looking :D

New Shimano fire shifter: problems with indexing

Re: Hi, I used the same shifters on an old bike for years. It was a cheap replacement to get the bike going again after my grip shifters wore out. They were bomb proof, never missed a beat. Just make sure the rear derailleur has good spring tension and that the cables run smooth. These might...

    WANTED: Sakae Litage MTB Frame

Ah yes, this picture of the Sakae shows the differences a lot better. The one I found looked like it had similar lugs, but here the differences are clear. They are beauties all of them though. I have 3 bonded AL frames myself. A Vitus 992 frame in the same color as the one above and an Alan CX...

    Giant Cadex?

Re: These sold well in the Netherlands. Some of the sponsored guys in my cycling club got a deal on these at the time. Believe they were handling well and and not noodly at all. Comfortable on longer rides, though I think thats more because of geometry than material. From what I have seen they...

the unofficially cool MTB drop bar thread

Re: Here is my first attempt of a drop bar mtb. Will be used mainly as a commuter and perhaps some gravel riding. Used the 1991 Trek 6000 frame which I bought a few years back and had been in storage since. Combined with a mixed bag of old parts and some new this is the initial result. Picture...

    cannot tighten brake levers enough

Re: Thanks for the replies. Will try the coke can this weekend. Never had this issue either, wonder if the cheap ebay levers don't work with as precise tolerances... Will post the result somewhere next week in the drop bar forum post.

    cannot tighten brake levers enough

I am trying my hand at a 26' drop bar conversion. I have bought a pair of cheap v-brake compatible brake levers of ebay and am using an my old Cinelli bars. Now I don't seem to be able to tighten the brake lever clamps enough. Its very close, but I would not want them to start moving once off...

Best 8 speed cassette currently available?

I went for a SunRace 11-40 cassette. Haven't tried it yet. Bought it for the gears, not for the weight though. On of these: http://www.ebay.com/itm/SUNRACE-M680-8- ... Sw8FtZfWFs Oh, one more thing, you might need a roadlink or similar to make this work.
