Heres my Norman Fay with its Nuovo/ Rally mech - it was not on there for very long!

It looks pretty good though!

My experience with Nuovo Record derailleurs as that they work fine until you push the limits. 52:42 with 14-26 works very well (by vintage standards), but 50:36 with 14-26 gets a bit clunky. 52:42 with 14-21 is excellent, but I'm a little too heavy to get away with that.

I've used a 2nd generation Rally for 20 or so years - no problems. I also use a Suntour Cyclone (long cage), that's excellent too. The Huret needs to be used very carefully, they're not very robust.

Just thought I'd add this as there's some Rally antagonism (!), my Rally from new, Holdsworth fitted them standard on Mistrals - and the Cyclone I've had from new.

The Shimano Crane is good (part of the Dura Ace group BiTD) as is the Dearhead.

Rk.

Oh, now that's pretty.

Its interesting to read that those second generation cyclone mechs weigh less than modern dura ace.

I have a long cage next generation Shimano 600 sitting in my parts bin as well as a DX mountain bike version which is in very good condition. The old Deer Head mech's seem to come up a fair bit too - maybe a more financially responsible solution?

Deerhead rear mechs are not the best at shifting. Even when used with deerhead shifters.

You can fit the long cage from a DX mech to a 600 or 105 to make tour own touring groupset
