Dawes Mirage - can anyone shed some light on this bike

I had a Dawes Scorpio with Reynolds 500 tubing, a slightly later 80s offering from Dawes with a similar spec (all shimano exage i believe). A really nice bike it was, not the lightest but a great bike to ride. I would expect the mirage to be quite similar :)

Retro seats (& last question from me for today!)

I have an almost completely unused (surplus to requirements) white charge bucket should you wish to try one (£10 posted UK). The Selle Italia Turbo is one of my favourite saddles, just seems to fit! :) Never tried a rolls but heard many favourable things.

Peugeot Perthus Pro 753 - Swap??

How tall are you? (not that its anywhere near exact but as a guide it might give a clue). If you're 6ft plus thats definitely too small.

Unfortunately this is indeed now sold. Only the Charge saddle and the brakeset left. Will likely find themselves on ebay this weekend....

Clearout bits n bobs. From Dura Ace to Handlebar tape

Sorry for delay getting back to you. Id rather sell them as a set at the moment i think. Probably go to ebay if no one wants them.

    Toms Raleigh Dynatech 700

Glad you're enjoying it. Was very tempted to keep it! When i had it it was an eclectic mix of half shimano 600 and a mix of other bits!

Clearout bits n bobs. From Dura Ace to Handlebar tape

Tyres and Tape now sold. Bikenut passed on the stem. Unfortunately id rather not post internationally so next in line for the stem would be Kerplunk if he still wants it.

    Peugeot 753 Perthus

Seen that one, dont think its a Perthus model btw, think they dropped that designation with the previous model. Ive got the same or near identical model in a frameset. I think its a tad over priced myself, but looks in mostly good condition and would make a great bike.

    BB unit removal "top tips"

You can use whole frame as a lever, mounting the removal tool in a vice and then rotating the frame around the tool rather than the other way round (if you get me).

Are 653 stays the same as 753?

Interesting reading Dan :) (and nice work judging from the pic!) I wondered if the 653 tube set would require silver solder for the stays, and hence likely restricted to those with 753 accreditation. Using the extremely scientific method of pinging the tubes, I can confirm that the...

Are 653 stays the same as 753?

Ive always wondered about this. To make a 753 frame a frame builder had to be first certified on the silver brazing (at least thats my understanding) So how does that work with 753 stays being brazed to normal 531 or lugs? (remembering that these are essentially all the same material)...

Reynolds frame logo's - Key to year of frame manufacture

Interesting, that doc claims that 653 comprised 725 rear stays. Most other sources list 753 for the stays.

Is the taper on this knackered?

Can anyone more experienced with this than me offer an opinon? The outer side of the taper is worn but the rest appears fine. Is it still useable or will i just end up continually re-tightening then crank bolts?
