New to me - Steve Bauer

Strathconaman- That looks like one of the high end Japanese built Bauers. More details here: https://www.bikeforums.net/classic-vintage/1178809-mystery-steve-bauer-bike.html The Tony Beek paint job indicates a bog spend. Tony ran a frame and paint shop in Toronto in the 80s and his work was of...

Bernard Carre frame - What specification am I working to?

Hi, NGR- Well done! That's a lovely, subtle effect with the silver paint and silver components. I believe your 531 decals are correct as Carre didn't largely shift to Vitus until roughly the time he went to the narrower, concave, fluted seat stay caps. During your respray, you might have found...

Bernard Carre frame - What specification am I working to?

Hi, NGR- Your Carre looks like one of his personal production framesets rather than a Lejeune, Delacroix, Bertin or whatever. The engraved stay caps, diamond lug cut outs and the modified fork crown indicate a Carre branded frame. It looks to be early to mid 1970s so Normandy Competition hubs...

    1960 Peugeot PX10.

vcballbat- In post #15 you asked what 18/22 on the 531 fork meant. It's likely the gauge of the 531 fork. Reynolds used taper gauge forks which were thicker at the top and tapered down to a thinner gauge at the fork tip. The 18/22 would mean a 1.2 mm thickness at the top of the blade and a .76...

    Ginet Reynolds 531

Reboot - Ginet was one of the lesser known French marques but a good company, nonetheless. Your bike looks to be a mid-market model with 531 butted main frame and hi-tensile stays and forks. The equipment on it is off quite good quality and shouldn't need replacing except for the rear...

Simplex clamp on gear shifter bracket - which bolts?

teraffic - Your attachments didn't come up so I am assuming you are trying to fit older Simplex retaining screws to the modern Shimano clip. Older Simplex levers used a now obsolete metric M5 x 1 screw thread compared to the modern M5 x .8 which is probably what Shimano is using. Perhaps get...

Weinnman brake callipers refusing to sit straight!

Captain Vimes- Your 570s will have a black plastic shroud over the end of the main brake pivot. It has a hex shape rod inside sized for a 4 mm socket. To center your brake arms, loosen the bolt on the back of the crown or brake bridge, use the 4 mm socket to hold the brake arms centered and...

    Carlton / Roller-cam

Probably Shimano Adamas aero brakes from the early 80s. Much newer than the frameset.http://velobase.com/ViewComponent.aspx? ... 7&AbsPos=1 It's a bike just begging to look like its cousin in the photo below the original post.

    1978 Bertin C34 (?) w/ shimano arabesque groupset

Hi, Kitz- Your bike is actually not a C 34 which used Vitus Durifort but is, instead, a Bertin C 37bis which was top of the range in that period. The C 37 used 531 and the C 37bis used 980 but with identical geometry and they could be spec'd with 600 like yours, all French, Dura Ace or...

Peugeot Record Du Monde PX10 or not?

Is the headset a Stronglight or a Lightrace? Typically, Stronglight took 26 ball bearings in the upper and 26 in the lower race. They would be 5/32" in diameter. Since you have lost one or more, buy some Grade 25 ball bearings (maybe 56 to allow for loss while assembling) pre-grease and then...

Peugeot Record Du Monde PX10 or not?

I thought that the GB might be a problem. French stems of that period are 21.85 mm/22 mm and the diameter of everyone else's stem is 22.2. Good luck with the removal. Try going to the Bike Forums site and search the topic, there are a lot of methods to try if yours is unsuccessful. Typically...

Peugeot Record Du Monde PX10 or not?

It's the model right below the PX 10. It's a PR 10 with 531 main frame and high tensile forks and stays. It has upgraded, alloy Simplex derailleurs. Probably early 70s.

    Unknown Frame

Tim75- It's a Peugeot from the early to mid 1980s, likely a Course or a Champion. The tubing will be main frame 531, Vitus 172 or Vitus 181(check the frame tubes, the Vitus will show up as faint stamping like v.181.) The front braze on is for a Simplex A222 front derailleur...

Carlton of some description....?? Help appreciated!!

I believe the W before the serial indicates when the frame was built. It likely means a 1966 -67 period build. After 1972, a W would indicate Worksop as the build site as an N would indicate Nottingham or an R would indicate Canada.

Lug and frame identification needed please.

The frame is definitely a Carlton product having a Wxxxxxxxxxxx prefixed serial number. When you take the bike apart look down the headtube and check for filled holes. If there are three, a Raleigh, if there are two, it will be a Carlton. The forks look like an aftermarket change.

Bernard Carré (around 1980), take 2

bikesandwatches- You will love the Carre once built. The Mafac LS are excellent on a Carre. I put them on my Carre/Bertin C 37 and they look great. Replace the brake blocks first thing as the OEM don't stop as they have hardened over time. Rustines makes Mafac hood replacements as well...

    my little collection

daytonatwin- The seatpost uses a plug type expander just like a stem. There is no seatpost bolt at all. Peugeot used this technique back in the late 80s.

    Can anyone name this bike?

built2last- Based on the seatstay cap design, I would venture that it is a Dawes Galaxy. See here: http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-zOfh396Bzpw/U ... 070913.JPG
