Got this frame in a job lot of stuff, difficult to tell from the pics, but there is the shadow of a Carlton shaped headbadge, plus the wrap over stays point to the same make, from what I know of them. Any ideas, does the frame number help at all? Looks as if it may have originally been a metallic red colour....??

Thanks for any help.

Headbadge holes remind me of a Sun. Carlton holes were horizontal. I'll have a think about old red ones, the nipple on the BB puts it before my time lol. Sixties Snipe variant?

Re:

Aha, thank you! Sun, of course, hadn't thought of that as an option. Does the frame number help at all in that case...??

I will research Sun Snipe, etc.

Re:

That has a Raleigh headset and bottom bracket cup. so 26 threads per inch.
Looks like a Worksop frame (W), so probably badged Carlton, they were also Sun and BSA.

Sun Worksop head badge :), from a Snipe I think..

Re:

Thanks chaps, that's really helpful info! Presume it has no real value as it's been resprayed? (I won't be keeping it as it's far too big for me...)

Flamboyant red was a colour Sun used on the Snipe variants and apart from the rear brake cable guide it looks a lot like THIS one I did a few years ago

I believe the W before the serial indicates when the frame was built. It likely means a 1966 -67 period build. After 1972, a W would indicate Worksop as the build site as an N would indicate Nottingham or an R would indicate Canada.

Re:

Thanks for all the help and pointers guys. Going to put it up for sale, or more likely donate to the local charity cycle place; it's too big for me and therefore not worth me restoring for myself.

Sounds as if it's a good enough frame to be worth someone else having a go though!
