Thanks for all the replies. I'll inspect the pads for aluminium from the wheels. I'll also try cleaning them as suggested and review set up including optimizing the leverage before thinking about replacement and/or incorporating the Tektro Power Hanger Brake Enhancer. :)

I have a mint condition Diamondback Axis 1996 model with its original M737 XT cantilever brakes. Due to light use the brake pads still have plenty of thickness left but i have noticed breaking performance is down. Can anything be done with these old pads to improve breaking performance or do i...

M737 Cantilever brakes Hi Ian. Thanks for the note. 737 canti's were most definately fitted to the DB Axis of that time so i'm hoping you have them. FYI i want the canti's for my DBR Vertex TR. In the attached pic you can see the dust cover around the fixing bolt, it is black in colour...
