Improving braking performance

your cantis should be fine with a standard cable hanger. you just need to set them up correctly. The distance between the cantilever body and the rim whilst braking is the most crucial thing.. this drastically effects the amount of leverage you can apply to the brake pads. Too close to the rim willl give you a hard feel and MUCH LESS power, too far and the brakes willl feel spongey but LOTS of power, find a happy medium (this is ascertained by setting the correct distance of the brake pad arm, in the pad holer) your standard cantis will work as good as anything else out there ;)

Thanks for all the replies. I'll inspect the pads for aluminium from the wheels. I'll also try cleaning them as suggested and review set up including optimizing the leverage before thinking about replacement and/or incorporating the Tektro Power Hanger Brake Enhancer.

...and most importantly, the correct toe-in ;)
