    1994 Amp Research Laguna Beach.CA B3

If this frame is 6061 aluminium like my Mongoose Amplifier 2 as I suspect then I would be very careful with this weld as 6061 looses its strength when welded and must be re-heat treated. Found this on wiki: If its 7005 then it should be ok.

    My Killer Bike...

Ooh, I do like that! I love the old red DX stuff, had it in several bikes over the years. I seem to remember that DX was only produced for a couple of years. Anybody know exactly when?

    Mongoose Team SX roadie

Nice to see another Mongoose on here, particularly an IBOC like this one as I had the bonded aluminium Comp SX version. Built it in '97 but it was stolen a year ago. Was my only bike for all those years. My son's mate had the carbon version like yours built at the same time but a couple of years...

Mongoose Amplifier 2 FTW 1995 - Purists beware

Forgot to mention there's been a few changes since first posting. Didn't really like the old Alivio stuff so replaced shifters, mechs and cassette with modern Deore. Crankset is now FSA K-Force Light 2x9 as I needed more carbon lovelyness on the bike, BB now FSA Ceramic and pedals have been...

Mongoose Amplifier 2 FTW 1995 - Purists beware

Hi nice to see another Amplifier 2 frame being saved, good luck with the build. You are correct with the seastpost mine is 26.8mm, though not many of that size around these days, found one on ebay. I didn't replace any of the bushings as they were not too bad, just cleaned up and greased...

    Disc brake advice needed!

You've not mentioned budget or whether new or second hand. I can make 2 recommendations that I have recently fitted to 2 bikes as upgrades, on a lower budget you can't go far wrong with Shimano Deore M596 which I picked up new for £90 a set exc rotors. Nice brakes but outshone by the Hope Tech...

    fournales or girvins

It's a close run poll here. Even though I voted for the Girvins here I committed a cardinal sin on my own Mongoose Amplifier 2 and fitted '98 K2 Crosslink Smartshock forks even though most people strive to fit Amp F3's to them. Funny thing is I don't believe the Amps were ever specced on...

nice way to sell a bike

At least the guy has a sense of humour, maybe he's saying all the bulbous purple helments are on here.......six page thread and rising. His original comments in the auction were actually valid, I can undertstand his point. You put something up buy it now and finish up with 40 watchers. What the...

    Mongoose Deuce Pro

Well you can't have it. It's mine!! I fell in love with it immediately I saw the frame in auction - couldn't believe my luck when I won it at just over £40. Couldn't believe my luck when I got it and found it to be nearly mint. Good luck finding another one, seems they're rather thin...

    Anyone riding 2x9

Out of my 4 bikes only one, my Mongoose Amplifier 2, still has a triple chainring. Single or dual appealed to me because I never use extreme high or lows. My On-One Summer Season is 1x9 using Funn Hooka crank and a single 36 chainring. My Mongoose Deuce Pro is 2x9 using Truvativ Holzfeller 36-24...

    Mongoose Deuce Pro

Yep, you got it. Repositioned the mech as close as I could to the outer ring which gives me about 2mm clearance between the bottom cage and chainstay, wind in the H adjuster so it goes no further than outer ring. It all works smoothly.

"Naysayers" - Modern bikes can look cool ...

Nice that they've put a nice light Fizik saddle (215gms) on a 35Kg bike. Only a rich demented banker would want one of these to park next to his Maybach.

    Mongoose Deuce Pro

No not had a chance to use them in anger yet, have been laid up with flu since fitting them, so these are first impressions from a couple of short rides, they're not really bedded in yet. I've only got experience of five sets of brakes: Hope M4 Tech Evos now on my Giant Shimano M596 Deore...

    Mongoose Deuce Pro

Hey you're right. I've never seen a Scott Octane before. The headtube on the Mongoose can be rotated 180 degrees to change the head angle. It's currently set to slackest, I don't know the actual angle as I can't find any info about the frame. Looks to be a change of about 2 degrees.

    Mongoose Deuce Pro

Recently picked up this somewhat rare and unusual frame. I have scant information on the frame as there is hardly any info out there, but it seems to have been produced from 2001 for a few years. The frame around the headtube is unusual in construction being skeletal and adjustable for head...
