Marin Team Marin DH (FRS DH) - my first DH bike

Pace RC150 Monster. 140mm (they said 160mm but it wasn't) of soggy, poorly damped and unreliable crap travel. It wasn't even in the same league as the 2000 Boxxer that replaced it when Pace got a lawyers letter requesting they consider a refund after six months and what must have been 25 bags of...

    Surface rust removal..Orbit America

Yeah, it's much better than kurust (their lanolin based anti-corrosion waxes beat waxoyl hands down too). Bilt Hamber is used a lot in classic car restorations and I've used it for years in that world. They also do stuff called Deox C which is basically citric acid crystals that you make into a...

    Surface rust removal..Orbit America

I'd think you've got two options, depending on if it's actually rust on the paint, or staining from the rust. If it's rust then you could try something relatively benign like Bilt Hamber Deox Gel, cover it and wrap in cling film to stop it drying out, clean that off once it's done the job and...

In dire need of help identifying this bashguard!

I suspect low volume or custom at the time, but the later Middleburn one would look reasonably close I'd suspect.

Sold Xlite Steve Peat signature edition stem. Black. 80mm reach. 31.8. 1 1/8”

This was one of the first, and coincided with the matching Steve Peat branded oversize bars. I think the 25.4mm ones were called Assassin but I can't remember what the 31.8mm DH one was.

    New project - Cove Stiffee

Nice colour, I'm always a sucker for purple. I realised the other day that I've got bikes with every iteration of XTR shifter on it since M952, so between my bikes I now seem to cover all bases from 8spd through to 12spd. Mad really when you think about it. On a light bike like the Cove I don't...

    New project - Cove Stiffee

I've got a slightly older one running 1x11 after its last rebuild (it's been like Trigger's broom in the last 20 years and IMO it suits it really well, it's just a shame the older seat tubes were 26.8mm so not able to take a droppper. Great bikes that ride superbly for all sorts of stuff; I've...

    Avid arch rivals

The arch has no effect as a booster as it pivots in the middle (and thus does nothing to keep the brake bosses rigid), but overall it's a better execution of the parallel linkage design that Shimano introduced as it doesn't go sloppy after five minutes.

    Headset questions

It probably is, but twenty years ago it was much more difficult to come across this stuff if it was outside your sphere of knowledge, after all MTB was also much smaller and less hipster/trendy than it is these days. Then again MB took 'inspiration' from Joy Division's Unknown Pleasures album...

Match for the weird pewter / bronze for Retro Kona front ends.

How about this if you're spraying with an airbrush? https://www.hiroboy.com/Champagne_Gold_Paint_Similar_to_TS75_60ml--product--8157.html

2011 Intense M9 FRO - owned from new and rebuilt

Well the BOS 888 is still a work in progress so I took the Fox 40's from the Rotec and stuck them on the front of the M9 for a day of riding and tweaking. I was down in Fort William with my dad for a weekend of eating fine food and drinking lots of fine wine (and whisky) and while he was...

    Hope Evo cranks. Fakery?

    Can you still call eBay?

    Hope Evo cranks. Fakery?

I guess it depends on how you sit morally. For me if someone is trying to currently sell something then it's 100% counterfeit and criminal, but if it's something that is no longer made then there is no issue. A genuine item will always be worth more, and a non-genuine repro is simply a product...

    Hope Evo cranks. Fakery?

If you've already got an open dispute I think you can report it via that, or if not you can (I recall) simply report the seller for selling fake items. It's a while since I've done it though.

    Hope Evo cranks. Fakery?

I think the bigger issue is that they are a current product from a current company and sold as real. A repro of a long out of production product from a long defunct manufacturer is a very different proposition.

    Hope Evo cranks. Fakery?

Sounds like he's being a bit threatening. I'd ping that onto eBay too as threatening messages aren't accepted by them at all and they take a dim view of it. I'd just reiterate to him that you'll happily send back if he refunds in full via an eBay agreement, and that's the only way. He needs to...

    Hope Evo cranks. Fakery?

Yup, 100% that. Full refund agreed by Paypal and return the cranks to him at his cost, or keep and partial refund. No half ways, he sounds like a fly chancer. What I find mad here is that aside from the etched rather than machined details is that I would have said the red cranks in those pics...
